My 21 Rams Harmonic Balancer snapped off and was in the shop for 7 weeks waiting on a New Short Block. Crank Shaft snapped and it damaged the Water Pump, Fan, Numerous pulleys, Belt, Fan, Fan Shrouds etc.etc. Just got the Truck back on 2/17/23. Runs great but the I/C Coolant Level alert comes on then goes off. It's happened multiple times today. Techs say they topped off all fluids. I don't smell or see a coolant leak. Ideas?

For starters, how’s the coolant level look in the overflow bottle? After full replacement some air could of worked its way through the system lowering the level in that.

It looks fine, As I'm sitting here thinking about it as I type, Numerous sensors had to be replaced due to damage. Im wondering if it may "just" be a sensor issue.

The sensor for that is in the tank, it may be either dirty or defective.

Well According to the Tech at the dealership, he said that it looks like someone didn't tighten the bolts on the Harmonic Balancer the last time it was worked on. I told him that no one has ever worked on the truck and the last thing to touch the Balancer was the robot at the factory. These are the notes on the Ticket when it was returned to me.

Verified customer concern of the Harmonic Balancer broke off. Also found the balancer bolts broke off in the crankshaft and the crank broke out of the side of those holes. The balancer looks like it bounced around when it came off because multiple other parts were damaged in the process. The water pump, fan support, fan pulley, upper idler, tensioner, belt, crank sensor, and the harmonic balancer itself was all damaged. The fan support bolts were broke off in the block too. Opened Star case and was advised to take pictures of the valve train. Was also advised to pull the pan for a main and road inspection. Star also wanted the head pulled for inspection. Pulled the head, removed removed the pan and sent in all of the pictures. Once the new engine arrived, pulled the old block and moved all of the parts over including replacing the damaged parts. Needed to repair a crank sensor harness and the fan shrouds. Reassembled the new engine in the truck and set the cab back on. Found the fan clutch harness in need of repair too. After all repairs, filled with new fluids and recharged the AC. Bled the brakes and adjusted the parking brake. Cleared the related codes and road tested. At time tested, the truck drives like a comparable vehicle. "These are the Techs notes word for word."

I will say this, The truck ran great. It started losing power at 70mph. Warning lights came on. "Service Crank Sensor", "Service Traction Control System", "Perform Service", "Service DEF System" all within about 20 seconds. Stopped on the side of the road, Very Rough Idle. Revved Engine and things smoothed out. Pulled back onto the Interstate and at about 60mph heard a loud "CLUNK" Engine immediately over heated, Lost brakes and steering. Had it towed to the shop.

Hope this helps

Wild i guess it is a one off thing but maybe its worth it to pull the balancer bolts and throw some blue loctite on em and retorque.

Harmonic balancer sheared all 4 bolts ¾ of the way into the crank. Same as other member stated. Truck broke down Oct 28th. Covered under Mopar heavy duty extended warranty. Dealers has had truck for 4 weeks now with no ETA of when balancer and pull on back order is going to come in. I run a business with this truck. I am now having to finance another truck to replace this as of too much down time. Dealer said they won't know if any internal damage until parts show up. Should I call Mopar and ask them for a new motor? Mine also over heated on me and wouldn't even start back up. Coolant all. Tow bill for ny state thruway was crazy as well! 20241029_153018.jpg

Wow! how common is this problem? I just turned over 100k miles on my current Ram 2500 Cummins. My previous Ram 2500 Cummins was totaled in a car wreck at 64k miles, I bought this one brand new. No serious problems with either one...

22 ram 4500 bought in June of 23 with 83k,now sits at dealer since Oct 30 with 180k miles. This is what I was hauling when it went. So far I replaced this year a bank 1 sensor 1 no sensor cost me $3k plus not. Covered by warranty, and also drag links and tie rod assembly, New steers and alignment at about $5200.anx now this! ☹️ 20241025_131833.jpg

Dealer was 6 weeks out to even look at it. Had a guy get me in and out in less than a week. Had to order parts. And I done very thing oem especially outside of dealer as truck is under warranty still.
