I am not sure if I have a setup issue, or what, but the system will read an incoming text, but will only allow a reply via canned messages. I ASS-umed I would be able to compose texts on the system.

Also, if I get into the truck on an active phone call it is not transferring the call to the truck. The call timer shoes up on the screen, but the call is still on the handset.

I use android auto and it recognizes and types exactly what I say. If I remember correctly uconnect has predefined texts, but I'm not 100%

I also don't know about apple auto

Howdy,
Here is the rub... You gotta connect your phone with a USB cable. That ain't happening. I am not gonna plug, and unplug the phone like that.

They need to make it function through Bluetooth, or NFC.

Last time I installed the android auto, it's clunky, not very functional for what it could be.

I have not tried Android Auto. I have spoken to folks with older trucks that can voice to text with the native system. That's what I assumed we could do, stick the phone on the wireless charger, and do my thing. Has technology gone backwards???

Howdy,
That is exactly what I was expecting... NOPE, doesn't work. o_O

Sorry had to

I think maybe there's too much data to go over bluetooth for android auto or apple CarPlay, that's why it needs an umbilical

I only have a bighorn so I don't have the wireless charging pad and whatnot, but I appreciate this truck and connectivity more so than my last '15 Laramie. Putting the google GPS on the truck display is wayyyyyy better than me glancing at my phone every so often on a long trip. And Google maps are superior

As a side note....I thought it was weird that my android auto only gets sensed through the forward USB ports and not the one in tune arm rest. Anyone else notice this?

Front usb ports probably have the high speed usb hub to support android auto and the rears don't

The baked in NAV/Media sucks... I wish auto manufacturers would just stop trying and just make them work seamlessly with Android/Apple.

AndroidAuto works just fine and is flawless... yes, plugging it in is a bit of an annoyance and they most certainly should have a Bluetooth/NFC option, but even with CarPlay, only Audi and BMW have a wireless option.

There are USB C hubs in the back and at least one of them connects to the head unit.

Here's a recent article Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto: Which cars have it and which ones are getting it?

Howdy,
It's a matter of having a solid case on the phone. In a rough and tumble world, to open the rubber plug, to have access to the port in a pain. Actually, for this phones life, I believe I have plugged it in maybe 3 times over the last 2 years. So, I just don't plug it in. Wireless charging, wireless connectivity, Bluetooth etc... should not need the physical connection to the headunit.

I know I'm just giving you a hard time. The fact is that it is a lot of data to process wirelessly. To be able to process that much data and do it without any latency takes a lot of processing power in the vehicle. That gets expensive. Which is why only premium luxury brands offer the capability now. It will become mainstream in the next few years, I have no doubt.

Funny... that's pretty much what the article I linked says as well...

Good read. No clue why they didn't include it in the 12" display. My wife's 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee does voice to text via NO USB. Maybe they will add it in the future.
