I went to do my daily checks this morning on my 4th gen and found a very light milky color on my oil cap. The dipstick had none of the discoloration on it but I’m worried it may be a head gasket IMG_0738.jpeg

drain the oil and see what it looks like in the bucket. it should separate and sit on the bottom. You may be able to test it with the motor running and if you see steam coming out of the oil cap area, then you got something.

Do you baby the truck or short trip it? Thats common to see on trucks that do not get up to temp consistently. If it was a HG then it would be way worse than that typically.

Just ran the test no steam and the color is gone. I’m gonna go for another drive.

I just had it on a long trip to Richmond but I’m gonna take it for another run on the highway to see if it comes back. Also the truck is a 2018 with 40k miles I don’t know if that makes any difference or not

Lots of short trips where the engine doesn’t get to temp will cause that, especially in winter.

This is after an hour and a half of driving sorry for the bad photo quality I tried my best with a flashlight and a stepstool but metal looks normal just a little dark I think it may be time for an oil change.IMG_0743.jpeg

Thank you all for the replies. Definitely took a lot off my mind. I’m new to the post 2010 diesel scene lol. I’ve only ever had second and third gen’s. I hope you all have a great day!
