Used 2019 Ram 2500: inspection? warranty?

I am looking at buying a 2019 Ram 2500 Big Horn diesel with the Level 2 Equipment Group (8.4" display, auto dual zone AC, power driver seat and pedals, heated front seats and steering wheel, parking sensors, power fold tow mirrors, power rear window, remote-start, etc.). It is a California truck (so I don't expect rust) with 56K miles.

Should I get a pre-purchase inspection done by a professional? Or are there a few things I can check for myself, such as turning the oil filler cap upside down to check for blowby?

The truck's bumper-to-bumper warranty is expired but it's still under powertrain and emissions equipment warranty for 2 years. I can get a 3 year, 36K mile extended bumper-to-bumper warranty (Mopar Maxcare) from Zeigler for $3K. Is that worth it? My gut says probably not...

what is the dealer saying about the cp4 recall?

nice truck. I've had zero issues with mine over 53k miles. it's been a peach once I corrected a few items up front.

I wouldn't invest in a warranty. some folks do.

Reacll 20V-043 (Transmission Valve Body) has been completed. Recall 21V-880 (HPFP) and 22V-140 (Electronic Stability Control) are not complete. The Mopar website says repair parts are available for both open recalls. Seller says the truck has been dealer maintained since new and it has new tires.

Recall Y78 for the HPFP. Dealer parts kits ordering was opened up today. Dealers are getting very slim allotments. Mine said 1 per week, others are saying 2/month.

Apparently some dealers were running waiting lists, some not. I've been bugging my SM since Nov and will be pissed if I'm way down a list he said didn't exist.

Ram dealers are so bad to work with I would not bother with a warranty. Get a truck you like and take care of it yourself. Also make sure that's the truck you want. A 2500 diesel has pitiful payload capacity which at least for me would defeat the purpose of a hd truck.

Good point. The one I'm considering has 2240 lbs of payload, which is enough for us. (It'll be a tow vehicle; we aren't planning a slide-on camper or gooseneck or anything.)

There is another 2019, a Laramie with all the options I want, for $64K. The differences are less miles (44K vs. 56K), LED headlights, leather seats, heated rear seats, remote tailgate release, 12" screen with navigation, adaptive cruise, surround-view cameras, sunroof, rain-sensitive wipers, camper shell and carpeted bed liner for $8K more. Currently debating between the two.

Took it in today for inspection for them to order the kit. 3rd in line. Woohoo.

Eh? That's a pretty silly gross generalization on both points. I've had great service from my current local dealer and every other FCA dealer I've brought a Jeep or Ram in to and find a lot of value in MaxCare if I'm keeping my vehicle more than 3 years. On the other point, 2500 Diesels work great for the vast majority of their owners, maybe not for you but that's why we have choice.

The payload thing is really limiting, just something to think about. Seems like about every month someone is on here shocked that they can't legally tow what they want. Put a family or work crew of four and some tools in the cab and you've got probably 1600lbs left at best. That's not all that much trailer---most 5th wheels and GNs are out. Sure it'll work for some, and a half ton probably would too. Given that the 3500 is about the same price why not have the headroom in capacity?
