I have a question about the front USB type C ports. Currently I have one of the old style ports used by a flash drive that contains my music library. The other old style port has my iPhone charging cable. I use Carplay all the time. What I would like to do is purchase an Apple USB-C to Lightning cable and plug my phone into the C port. My questions are: 1) Will it work at all or damage my phone or the vehicle? 2) Will I be able to use carplay through the C port? 3) I think USB-C ports are 18 watts so it should charge a lot faster. Has anyone observed that this is the case? 4) Can all 4 ports be used at the same time for charging 5) What happens when you plug two phones in at the same time in front? Who gets priority? I assume the first phone plugged in? (Edit: I found the answer to this last question on pages 643 and 644 of the manual)

1/2- i have a usb c to lightning cable and carplay works fine. no damage to anything.
3- usb c does seem to charge an iphone faster, yes.

no help on 4 or 5.

Keep in mind that USB-C fast charging is only compatible with Iphone 8 and above. I think the cable and port will work on lower models, but just will not "fast charge".

Actually all the iphones would charge with the iPad 12 watt charger at vastly faster rate than with the 5 watt included charger. I don't know how much power the USB-A ports are capable of. If only 5 watts, then the C ports should charge a great deal faster with older iPhones, but obviously not at the fast charge rate. I use nothing at home but the 12 watt chargers. They are good for about 1% per minute. I have an XR, so I'm hoping to experience "fast charging" for the first time, but my wife has 6s and stubbornly refuses to replace it. her battery is shot, so it doesn't matter much anyway. Sooner or later, she will buy a new phone.
