Unusual usage of DEF

Has anyone noticed going through more DEF than what’s normal. I’ve gone through full tank and another two Gallons within the first 3100 miles? Thoughts??

I’m getting like 650 miles per gallon of def. so it’s right about the usage you are getting.

I haven't been tracking mine closely, but, it hasn't been bad at all. I have only added 2.5 gallons since I purchased. I have about 5000 miles and am sitting just over 1/4 on the DEF gauge as of now. I am maybe around 750 MPG on the DEF. I guess since I have had the truck for 3 months and 5k, I haven't really paid attention to it since I have only filled once.

Haven't been towing much though. Only 2 RV trips since I got the truck since the wife is expecting and we're sticking close to home for now.

I have read that previous years of the cummins really breaks in between 8-12000 miles and at that point fuel economy goes up and DEF usage goes down. Only time will tell.

Big difference from my 2016. I was getting about 6000 miles before I ever had to add any, that’s why I was asking. Just heard that they will be removing Def from some future models by 2021 or 2022. Anyone else hear that?

The non-DEF and/or non-EGR rumors have been churning for a while. Hard to say what is reality with the emissions noose tightening.

2019 HO - I used 1/2 tank of DEF in the 1st 640 miles.
Dealer did a PCM update, seems much better now, closer to the numbers you posted.

7000 km and def gauge still at 3/4 full. Was wondering if gauge even worked at first

i"ve used 6.5 gallons, estimated, over 4800 miles.
it seems to use it fairly slow.
