@RamCares Can you reach out to Uconnect and find out why their Uconnect.com Update checker is broken.

I've been saying it for over a year, the Uconnect.com firmware update check does not work for newer trucks. I was 98% sure it was broken, whether it be by design or due to laziness on Uconnects part. But the Uconnect RA2 5" that I had in my early build 2019 2500 (now transplanted into my 2019 5500) has always been an unbelievably laggy POS, but worse yet, it constantly reset itself and constantly reset the clock to 12:00. I checked the Uconnect firmware update page several times using my VIN# only to be told that the radio is up to date and there are no updates available.

Thanks to someone with access to the dealer software I found out there were at least 2, possibly 3 updates available for my radio that were TSB's to address a HUGE list of issues with this Uconnect radio, and two of those listed issues were random radio resets, and clock resets to 12:00.

So I'm now 100% sure the Uconnect Firmware update check does not work, period. However I'm still not sure if it doesn't work by design or negligence. Either way, it should be fixed and made to work because it's unacceptable that the end users have to go through the hassle of scheduling service appointments, then wasting time driving to dealerships (which is for some people hours away) that usually require the problem to be diagnosed before they bother looking in their system to see if an update is available. It's been my experience that dealerships usually don't want to deal with this waste of time.

If Uconnect actually properly supported their radios, it'd be a simple easy process for end users with problems to actually check for updates themselves and install them on their own time vs going through the hassle of scheduling a service appointment at their dealership which could yield no results.

Bad enough Uconnect releases products with broken software, but also having a webpage that's supposed to allow owners to check for updates themselves, but is, I feel, purposely disabled is like adding insult to injury. Uconnect needs to get their **** together and either release software that's properly tested and fully functional, or at the very least give owners direct access to the updates as they become available.

Unfortunately I'm sure this will fall on deaf ears, but if enough of us complain to RAM, and even the NHTSA, since it is extremely distracting to the driver when the Uconnects have problems, MAYBE Ram will take notice and start putting some pressure on Uconnect to get their software sorted.

You can take USB drive to your dealer and get the up dates.

Also, Last time I. Checked for an update...a few weeks ago the website worked...

Just take a USB drive next time you are close to a dealer..

Yes, the website itself “works”, in that you can go there and enter your VIN to “check for an update”. But, it will ALWAYS say that your vehicle is up to date, no matter what. Just like @g00fy found out, over the last few years, I’ve entered 100’s of VINs on that site that I’ve known for a fact had updates available, but it’s always the standard “your vehicle is up to date”.
Also, the dealer can only put updates on a usb stick that are part of TSBs. If it’s just a straight up over the air update, with no TSB available for that particular OTA update, they can’t put it on a usb stick, and you have to wait for it to be pushed to your radio.

So it works.. Just not accurate? I have never updated a UConnect via the web.. Always USB...
Now I guess with UConnect 5 I just wait for the over the air....

Maybe dealerships in your area will do that, but both dealerships in my area either flat out refuse even after giving them a tsb number, or they claim there's no updates available because they're too lazy to check.

Also just because the web page displays doesn't mean the update checker works. The web page always displays, but it doesn't actually check for an update, it just says there's no updates available regardless of whether that's true or not.

Have you called UConnect? Maybe they can send you the Update. I think they use to send out updates before...I remember these memey card deals I use to get in the mail.

I think if it was me I would be exploring aftermarket headunits.

I have called uconnect in the past, but if there is an update available they tell you to go to the dealer.

I would consider aftermarket, but I just don't think aftermarket is there yet considering how integrated radios are into the rest of the functions of the vehicle.

Should not have to go aftermarket for what we pay for these.

Not for most but plenty of Audiophiles have always preferred aftermarket vs OEM.

How many functions are in the 5" unit? I am not even sure how a dealer refuses to do an update...seems they could lose their dealer privelages for not updating or servicing a FCA product

If that is truly the the case the generall manager of that dealership would be explaining why.
Then it would be a call to FCA if that didn't resolve it.

That's not the point, the point is, most other manufacturers, (Ford & Sync) for example let you get updates easily so you can avoid the entire hassle that is the dealership. Uconnect claims to offer this same service by having that update checker on the website, but it doesn't work.

Also for those of us (like myself) who have upgraded to different OEM units, like I have a 12" in my 2019 tradesman, the dealers around here will absolutely not help in any way if it's not the radio that came with the truck, even if it's just a different OEM radio.

This is true for all dealers on non factory components.

I installed the trailer TPMS in my truck and the dealer flashed the sales code for me but they let me know they would never service this feature as it is not on my build list. The excuse as to why my truck did not come with it was due to the chip shortage...but some how I was able to source the parts...

What happened to the radio in the 5500? Maybe see if you can source a 8.4 screen as I think they do OTA updates.

The OTA updates don't work on the Uconnect 4's if you've changed the radio.

I think you are answering all of your own concerns -

FCA is not going to cover/update the transplanted radio because its not part of your build sheet.

You are asking RamCares to fix an issue they probably can't fix because they are not allowing people to buy OEM radios after the fact and and update them if they do not match the build sheet. Which may be why they are not showing updates on the website - even mine says no update needed and I am on a old version of the Uconnect 5 - but I have read on other FCA product forms that people have been able to download the updates from the Uconnect website after initially getting the "no update available" message.
