Uconnect 5 vs. Samsung S22

I have the Uconnect 5 with NO NAV, I'm supposed to use my phone and Android Auto for NAV-- with which Uconnect 5 is supposedly compatible. However, the map just freaks out on the truck screen every time I connect my phone to it (Samsung S22) . It will locate me on the map, and it'll look ok for about 3 seconds, then it just randomly changes directions and spins around north to south and zoom in and out and all sorts of wild nonsense until it will finally settle down and locate me accurately again... for about 3 more seconds, and the whole spasmodic episode starts all over again. Whats the deal?? My phone is up to date with the latest software update. Do I need to take the truck to the dealership for a Uconnect software update?

Also, anytime I get in and start the truck, it will bluetooth connect to my phone and immediately open and play Spotify. How do I stop this from happening? I don't want my Spotify to automatically play every single time I restart the truck, I'd rather the radio be the default and the Spotify stay off unless I turn it on. I'd like to be the one making the decisions about what I listen to, not my truck. Is this possible?

This Uconnect system is buggy, yeah I'd take it in to the dealer. They'll do a software update if needed and may even order a new radio/unit. I had my radio replaced through warranty due to my issues with Android Auto on my Galaxy23 and my wife's Galaxy 23Ultra. We're also replacing the radio/unit in my wifes 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee under warranty do to it randomly flickering a black screen. It's unfortunate this technology has terrible quality control.

As for it automatically connecting to spotify, the radio will connect to the last used app by default. There is a setting somewhere (can't think off the top of my head) to change that option.

The dealer can't do anything about the Samsung phone. Samsung has some kind of intermittent issue with Android Auto that does exactly what you're describing. Oddly it doesn't seem to affect the A series phones. I've had it happen in our VW too.

For the music starting.

Settings> apps> Android Auto> Configure in Android Auto>S tart music automatically> off

Maybe I should uninstall and reinstall the Android Auto app on my phone, BUT, we have two other vehicles that also use Android Auto for NAV features (a Hyundai and a Nissan) and neither of them have this bizarre behavior with the NAV. They both work flawlessly with my S22 and my wife's S23. Since thats the case, I have to assume the issues are with the UConnect, not my phone.

Are your step-by-step instructions for the Uconnect or for my phone?

I have an S22 and after the most recent update (last weekend?) my phone wouldn't connect. Even hard wired the music would play but the maps wouldn't show and the phone did not work. I googled the issue and a video came up with possible settings changes on the phone. I changed the settings and have had no issues since. The music starting upon entry I believe is a setting in the android auto app on your phone. I went into Maps, android auto, and phone app. and it had defaulted to an "optimized" power setting. I changed them back. Access the apps from your app list in through the settings option on the phone, not from the app icon. Hope this helps

I can say **Knock on wood** that ever since they replaced the whole radio/unit my Samsung Galaxy S23+ has been working without the constant disconnect issues. I still will get some slow responses on things such as waze when trying to navigate the menu. I've been contributing that to waze as Google maps works great.

Still, shame these technologies can't work seamlessly together like they're supposed to.

I would definitely attempt all the suggestions provided here to try and get things to work properly. If that doesn't work and you're still under warranty I would push the dealer/service center to troubleshoot and possibly replace the unit. But that's just me.

Suppose the dealership/Ram DOES replace the entire radio unit.... what diff will that make? If its a software issue, they should be able to "reflash" the existing unit or something, no? Seems to me that replacing the entire unit assumes its a hardware issue.
