I've only had it happen once, but it worried me.

I was driving my truck and I decided to plug in my Apple phone to the USB port - the battery was low and I wanted to charge it while I was driving. The Apple CarPlay shut off when I plugged the phone in and the system went back to the Mopar Infotainment system.

Does anyone know if there's a fix for this? Has anyone had this happen to them?

It should have switched to wired car play, you may have to unlock it for it to switch though

By fix, do you mean that it has not started working on carplay again? Or do you mean to make your radio not turn the carplay off when a phone is connected to the charger?

I ask because I have been using carplay in my truck since I got it, and today I plugged the phone into the wired charger for the first time and now the Uconnect system says "connecting" the whole time, but not going to connected, just spinning forever. My phone's bluetooth even says "connected" to the Uconnect, and the Uconnect has my phones name, so it knows it is there, but not getting connected. Wondering if I fiddled some setting by plugging the phone into the wired charger the same as you have described.

The newer phones can be picky on cables, especially if its not MFI certified. What I found in the wife's ford as well as my truck is that USB-C to Lighting seems to be far more reliable for wired carplay in the vehicles that have both the USB-C and traditional USB-A ports. I've been using these in both with no issues between the iPhones in the family :

I used to have a collection of cheapo lighting cables that I've given away since they almost always would have issues with carplay or would randomly drop out while driving(Especially in that picky Ford). Since I swapped to the Anker cables or if I use an Apple USB-C to Lighting I have had none.

Since my last post in this thread I have just left car play "off" in my phone, but when in the truck I plug my phone in, and carplay comes available on the Uconnect 5 screen, only when phone is plugged in. I really like that! I've been very happy for about a month or so, but today I decided to get a little shorter black cord at a gas station. So I don't have my 4' cable piled up in the console area. As soon as I plugged the phone in with the gas station cord my phone disappeared from Uconnect, and never came back available on the screen. Same things as before, I can see the phone named as an available device, but it just says "connecting" the whole time. Never connects whether plugged in or not.

I drove all over the place today, 180 miles driven and phone not working on carplay. Totally pissed at myself all day. I just got home and tried re-installing the phone and of course I have reverted back to the original iphone cord. Now I can get the phone to be available via bluetooth, and play music via bluetooth, and use the phone to make calls as a bluetooth device, but the the car-play does not show up as an option. When I plug the phone in with a cord it shows up as an iphone and the carplay icon is there, but it just spins, never connects. Did I really screw something up today with the gas station cord?

Also, the carplay settings in my phone have changed, I used to just be able to go to settings>general>carplay and toggle it on/off from there. Now the carplay option says to use carplay while phone is locked? not toggle it on/off

I hate technology.

Thank you Ram cares. Lo and behold it is working the way I want it to today. I think given my experience, any time I introduce a new cable to the usb AUX port the Uconnect system takes some hours to recognize the device . But once that is established all works well.
