Truck scale vs RAM’s payload sticker

Anyone weigh their trucks and have a mis-match between the door sticker max payload, the truck weight, and the GVWR? According to a 10k lbs GVWR and the scales, my payload is about 850 lbs LESS than the placard on the door states. I know I could lose some weight, but...

If you weighed yourself in the truck...well that is wrong.

You have to weigh the truck completely empty with no accessories...bed cover, hitch, vent visors...etc. And larger wheels and tires will also affect this.

And you have to have a full tank of gas.

Then your number will match.

Take the 10000 lb GVWR minus the door payload. This gives base weight. Then go to the scale with a full tank of gas and get out. You will be real close.

A member at the 5th Gen site had a real issue with registration and such and filed suit with RAM.

She won and that is now why the configurator, when a VIN is used, is now 99% accurate.

Curious if there really is 850lb difference...cause that is a big deal @dragon_ram

Being 50 to 100 off...i would say scale anf you missed something in the truck.

Exactly. That’s a BIG difference. And weighing myself in the truck isn’t wrong, it just isn’t right. Besides, I’m decent enough at math to subtract 185 lbs from the scale reading.

I weighed it empty, 1/2 tank of gas, stock wheels but new tires, sitting in the truck. Subtract 185lbs for me, 8 lbs x 4 tires (difference between stock and new), and adding back in 100 lbs (half tank of gas x weight of diesel) and I get 117 lbs I should remove from the scale reading to make it “standard.” That ain’t 600 + lbs.

10,000 - 2234 (from door) = 7766 lbs. Scale said 8480 lbs.

Dead body or two where the spare would be? Haven’t looked there yet.

Or the cartel cargo hidden in truck.......it is built in Mexico.

I was hoping buying a 2019 in July 2020 they would have already come and got their stuff!

Wow...yeah that is off. What scale did you use.

My 2013 Cummins with 6 passengers at the rock quarry didnt weigh that much.

So base weight should be 7766. Your scale slip said 8480 and you say 117 lbs to be removed for 8363.

8480 minus (185 plus 8 times 4) plus 100 equals 8363
Something seems wrong. It isnt jiving with reality lol.

And I just made mention about your weight because some people think 150lbs is given for driver and that is not the case with payload. And you had no numbers in your first post.

Something seems amiss

My 2020 HO/Aisin 4x4 LWB CC with 50 gals of fuel and me in it (235) scaled at 8900. That Hemi is less than 500 lighter? Seems off.

The payload difference between the Hemi and the HO should be close to 1000lbs in favor of the Hemi.

I thought you said once that your PL was 3700ish? Subtracted from 12300 gvwr is 8600. Must not have much else in truck or are my #s off?

Yes, 3707 payload on sticker and online VIN lookup.

Truck was scaled before tire change or with 5th hitch, etc.

50 gals of fuel (252 lbs), heavy drop hitch (20lbs?), me (OK, maybe 240 LOL), couple gats and a few travel items (20 lbs?). If it's supposed to be 1/2 tank and sans driver, that puts it at 8900 - 126 - 240 - 40 which is 8494 curb so pretty close. Hard to guess how much stuff I had in the cab might have really weighed.

After that, I add around 450-500 for hitch, toolbox, gear, chains, recovery gear, etc. I haven't scaled the truck with everything in it. With my pin weight (~2200) I still have 900 lbs to play with.

Here's the weigh ticket (with gear empty boat w/~20 gals) and reweigh.

My 2020 RAM 3500 Tradesman HO CC LB 4x4 32 gallons fuel and my stuff and I weighed 9100 on a Cat scale. I am 300 pounds. Rear axle was 3860.

Over 60% of the weight on the front axle, no wonder these things wallow through corners...
