I know it isn't an answer, but this same issue has been brought up on a lot of FCA related forums related to Jeeps, Durangos, Promasters, etc...
I notice it in my 2500, my wife's Durango and in my 4th gen 1500. I never did notice it in my 4th gen 2500, but that was a bare bones Tradesman. I've always assumed it had something to do with the fancier HVAC controls in the higher trims.
