My wife woke up two nights ago from the notification on her phone that one of our security cameras had triggered. Thinking it was probably just a critter she didn't look at the video until the morning. In the video my truck headlights and tail lights were on. The truck was locked and the FOB was in the house. Anyone know of a reason this might happen?

Kind of far fetched but I worked next to a large dealership a few years back. There was a bad storm roll through and lightning hit a truck. It fried that truck but the trucks around it the lights were all on.

One of the critters triggered the security system on your truck prompting it to flash the lights?

I could consider that. I don't recall any storms but I'll ask her.

I thought of that too. I locked the truck last night when I got home. Then went out after dark without the FOB. I tried all the doors and the tailgate but no lights.

Well that's weird.

I have critters (a pair of racoons actually!) that are on my cameras literally every morning on the pad where i park my truck. I need to keep an eye out and see if any of this is happening.

IF the keys are too close to the truck it could be in range of a proximity key

Headlights and tail lights have not happened to me, but other similar things have. I had noticed that the truck seems to wake up randomly without obvious reason. The dash instrument panel will come to life and the uConnect will come on. Once I saw overhead interior lights on. Mainly I was concerned about battery if this was happening repeatedly. I don't think it was but I have started keeping the FOBs in a Faraday container when not using the truck and so far that seems to help. In my case the FOBs are probably at the edge of their range from the truck when at home so this may be a factor for me.

The fact that you had headlights, tail lights and a triggered security camera makes me think something else was going on. Weird. Your truck obviously thought something was going on. Sometimes I believe these new trucks do to much "thinking" on their own!

Do you have your lights set to stay on for a certain period after locking it? Maybe someone (dog, kid, errant sock) accidentally locked it again with the fobik and triggered it?

Could it have been remote started? Happened to me a couple times with the fob in my pocket. Our Honda starts multiple times a day if I carry the keys.

Check where you had the FOB. Maybe something was pressing against it or one of the buttons.

And I also keep my FOB in a Faraday case. And I agree. I tell all my friends my truck is more of a computer with wheels. And its "on" all the time.

Is it a camera with a night mode? When I have checked my camera at night it shows my lights on, as they reflect the IR that the cameras use to do night vision. When I look outside they are not on. Just a thought

Hadn't thought of that. I'll try it tonight.
