2023 Ford 500hp and 1200lbs torque…F450 rated at 40,000# towing…where will this end??
I have a 33.5hp 3cyl CAT diesel zero-turn mower, but drive a Hemi 3/4ton. Your point. It really is getting crazy. As I said in another thread, I was towing fairly heavy with my '98 GMC 6.5 with a whopping 185 hp and 385 lb.-ft. I really enjoyed that truck, towed well. Then my Duramax was like a different world power-wise, LBZ with 360 hp and 650 lb.-ft.
The numbers on these new diesel trucks are reminding me of the garden tractor hp wars. I was cutting the lawn just fine with a 14 hp single, then an 18 hp twin, but newer tractors were rated at 25 plus hp. Was that what was needed to sell new tractors? I guess so.
No matter what, the numbers are pretty amazing given the engine platforms they are built on.

TFL said the 40K is for the regular cab base truck and the quoted payload was a little over 7K.Going to be hard to pull 40K, legally, with a GVWR stuck at 14K and a max payload weight somewhere in the 4000’s
I believe they quoted 8k for regular cab 2wd F450 with no options. Which would check out if pulling 40k assuming 20% on the ball. Semantics aside that's a ridiculous amount for a truck that anyone can walk in and buy.TFL said the 40K is for the regular cab base truck and the quoted payload was a little over 7K.

Wait until y'all get a load of this!
