I have a 2019 2500 diesel with 58K. During a recent trip, I had to climb a steep winding road (with trailer) thst resulted in a high transmisson temp warning. I checked the codes later and it indicated a P0218 - Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor "A" Over Temperature Condition. It was the only code showing and when I tried to clear all codes, it would not clear. No dash light indicated a problem so my assumption was to replace the transmission fluid (58K miles as suggested) and replace the Temperature Sensor A.
When I went to the Ram Dealership, they indicated ~$700 for the transmission servicing and ~$200 for the Temp Sensor but then said they needed to do a complete diagnostic (another $250) to determine the cause of the sensor failure (which I knew was the result of working the transmission up a steep grade). So the question to all, has anyone replaced a Transmission Sensor A and is there a need to replace if I just service the transmission (fluid and filter). OR since they're servicing the transmission, just bite the bullet and replace the Temp Probe and do the diagnostics to get a clean bill of health.
