Trailer tire track vs truck tire track

I have been looking at various trailer ideas for pulling behind a ram 3500 SRW.

Definitely still in the learning phase.

There are a couple of possible scenarios:
- Snow
- Ice
( both going up and down to the snow - example Tahoe )

- soft mud - like in a field / horse area
- Sand

Trailer weight in the 5 - 7 K range.

I am assuming for deep snow, it would make the most sense to try to have the trailer tires in the same "rut" / width for all tires ( 4 on the truck, and 2 or 4 on the trailer )

When it comes to mud or soft sand, is that also the case ?

Are there any conditions that it would be better for the trailer to have a wider track than the truck ?

Thanks

Harry

With a HD and a trailer of that weight there’s no need to over think things. Just pick the trailer you want and the one that works best. Hooker up and let her eat.

I can’t say I have ever thought once about trailer track width in relation to the pickup.

I wouldn’t put too much stock into it, myself.

I think you're thinking way too much about track width here. Find the trailer that works for you and as the others have said, let 'er rip.

Most likely will need to build from scratch or modify one to deal with some custom needs, so at least in theory I can either use an axle width that matches the truck or wider.

That is the reason for the question.

I built a trailer from an old Ford econoline van 40 + years ago, so it isn't that difficult.
