I am pulling a brand new 2025 Alliance Valor TH 5th wheel with my 2023 Ram Dually. And i am getting this trailer brake disconnected and then it reconnects then disconnects etc.

Alliance claims its a ram problem or maybe it’s some feedback from the solar panels on the camper sending a charge up the cable to the ram which it doesn’t know what to do with.

90% likely it's the connection between the truck and the trailer. Check both the truck and trailer side of the 7-pin and make sure they're not dirty, or pasted with a bunch of dielectric grease. If they're a mess give them a wipe, but either way id say insert and remove the connector a few times to make sure it's making good contact.

The trailer connector seems to have super flimsy/ loose contacts. I just ordered a new trailer wiring harness. I’m going to try that. I tried using a small screwdriver to tighten them up a bit, but they are so flimsy that they didn’t stay that way. You can see from the picture that the gaps are uneven.

That's the connector they gave you on a new 2025 trailer? And from Alliance of all companies? That's disappointing.

I also had this exact same problem. I replaced the plug on my trailer with the newer style plug (with single blade contact) and problem solved.

I just replaced my old trailer with a new 2024 Outdoors RV and was shocked to find this same crappy plug. I will be changing the plug on this trailer as well.

In my experience you can get 2 different warinings. One says, check your trailer wiring, and the second says your trailer is disconnected (even though is clearly is not).
If it says check your wiring then you have a short that is minor or intermittent. Or maybe an open circut that is temporary. If it says disconnected then the problem is more severe and at that point the truck has disabled the brake controller and you have no brakes. Just something to think about. These symptoms can come and go.

I discovered that the brake magnet wires were not in the clips and were rubbing on the brake drum shorting out. I went through 10,000 miles of this causing warning after warning. It was NEVER anything to do with my trailer 7 pin connector. Just so you know.

From my experience, you are on the right track; it's likely the connector

I actually have seen both warnings… and in fact it did disconnect my trailer brakes. How did you resolve this or even inspect to determine this was the cause? BTW, someone else mentioned this too. So I want to check it out.

I googled what the brake magnet resistance should be and did the math. 4 Magnets on my trailer and it was shorted or less resistance than it should be.. Then I went back and I started cutting wires to isolate each brake. First cut isolated it so I did not have to do much repairs. Then I fixed those wires and routed them through the clips. This came this way from DEXTER. Trust me Dexter and InTech heard about this. I probably got that warning 1000 times over the miles. Coming and going. Bill Luke Dodge/Ram in Phoenix AZ checked the truck out for me since I was on the road, and the Tech even let me see on his laptop what was going on. Trailer brake circut shorted to ground. Unhook traler connector, code resets. Reconnect trailer and code came back. NO CHARGE.........Good dealer took care of me on the road. When I got home I got it fixed for good!

I changed the connector, so now I’m gonna drive it and see if it comes back. Next thing to look at would be the brakes/magnets.

I changed out my connector to the proper one, but i still get the disconnect messages. Guess i will need to check out the brake wiring itself.
I sure hope this isn’t the case for me. I haven’t worked on a drum brake since… high school in the 80’s. Seems like that technology has been superseded and shouldn’t be in use anymore.

Coming back to this... Ive changed to the Pollak connector hoping this would solve my issue, but im still getting the "disconnected" warning.

Im going to dig into the brakes on the trailer now and see what I can find.

Check the wires going through the axle tubes they are prone to shorting and causing the issue aswell, they are cheap wire I usually zip tie a new PVC jacketed 2 conductor wire to the top of the axle tubes to solve the issue

I changed both brakes on the front axle. They were in pretty bad shape. The rears were replaced a few years ago. I'll see how it goes when i take the camper out on thanksgiving weekend.

I got my local dealer to look at it. They found two wires with all the insulation rubbed off… bare wires showing. They replaced it all and no more issues. I did a 2000 mile round trip and no issues, just good working brakes the whole way.
