While driving through my neighborhood this morning, someone decided to tailgate me for a minute. While this was happening, my dash temporarily displayed Conventional Trailer and then illuminated the Max Mode trailer indicator just as though I connected my trailer. My Auto exhaust brake was on. After driving a few miles I noticed my exhaust brake was not engaging. Cycling the exhaust brake switch did nothing. Pulled over, restarted the truck, and all was back to normal. Max Mode trailer indictor extingiushed and exhaust brake functioned normally. Very odd behavior. Based on my understanding, trailer merge assist activates by sensing when the trailer electrical connection is made. My only thought is it was triggered by the blind spot sensors and the tailgating car (they were very close). Anyone ever experience this?

Yes, that’s actually how the BSM sensors auto detect trailer length, and plugging in a trailer doesn’t need to be done. It happens to me all the time on a winding road by my house- when someone is tailgating, and after one curve, it picks them up as a trailer.

Thanks for the confirmation. Do you happen to have the exhaust brake activated when this happens, and does it cease to engage after it occurs? Or was that a separate anomaly that just happened coincidentally?
