Hey guys… looking for some insight.

Im interested in a off road travel trailer…. The Black Series HQ19 or HQ21. Which are tongue heavy trailers

Both trailers have a MAX GVWR of 10k. Dry weight for the HQ19 is 6525 and the dry weight for HQ21 is 6733 which is the one I really want

Both have a dry tongue weight of 1000 pounds but due loading up the trailer GWVR… I would realistically be at a tongue weight of 1500 pounds which is basically all the Power Wagon has… add in 4 passengers including myself and that’s another 500 lbs

So… Since it’s still a 2500 Truck and Ignoring the door sil, adding the best airbags I can get with daystar cradles, maybe stiffer rear springs… Could the Power Wagon handle it? Or do I need to look at regular RAM2500/3500 with the 6.4 or a 7.3 F250/350 with the Tremor package

I won’t be rock crawling with this truck but I would be towing down the “Beaten Path” with it

Also I live on the east coast so I imagine many miles on the highway driving out west… normally a diesel would be preferable but where I plan to Boondock… buying diesel fuel isn’t available and then there’s the weight penalty of off roading with a diesel truck…. I’m a class A CDL driver and I’m used to driving slow trucks in the right lane so

So any insight?

Since you will be staying on the beaten path, may I ask why you are looking at the PW? Not being an ass here at all. In my mind, if you are not really offroading in the truck, you would be better off in something besides a PW. I feel like you will be spending quite a bit of extra money for things you don't really need as well as extra money to get it to do what you really want it to do (tow well).

The PW is just not a towing vehicle. The payload is less than most half ton trucks (my previous half ton had a payload of 1700 lbs). Save the money and get the regular 2500 or 3500 if there is any possibility of towing heavier in the future. If you just want the looks of a PW you can achieve it for less cost and weight with aftermarket items (lift, tires, wheels).

Add the bags and upgrade the OEM D rated tires to some E rated and you'll be fine. PW has the same axles as the 2500's just some super soft/longer springs and different front radius arms. (not sure if swaybars are the same stiffness). While it isn't an ideal towing vehicle it should handle what you want just fine when properly set up.

Does the PW use different brakes? If so, are they up to the task of stopping heavier loads?

Trailers have brakes to stop themselves…. But yes the brakes are plenty stout for the setup he is after

my rear springs are 2.5" pure performance kit, which, they say, is a 10% drop from factory springs. this tt has a 1.1k tongue weight. I have the air lift bags and inflated to 80lbs. everything was spot level and it towed really well. you'll he good with a set of bags.
