I realize this isn't Ram specific but can anyone recommend a decent torque wrench for filter changes and other maintenance? I dont want to break the bank but would like something fairly accurate and dependable.
Thanks!

Gearwrench makes good stuff at decent prices. Available on Amazon too

I will catch hell for this but my Harbor Freight torque wrenches get the job done. I have built several engines with these and have nothing negative to report. I have the Harbor Freight 1/4 and 3/8 drive torque wrenches and an older Craftsman 1/2 drive. FWIW the HF and Craftsman are calibrated the same.

Ive actually heard good things about the HF Icon ones. In my mind any torque wrench regardless of brand will be greater than no wrench at all. Ive seen it all, impact guns on oil plugs, loose shock bolts, etc all because some people think torque specs are just suggestions. I commend those that actually try to take the time to do things correct.

As for me, my brand of choice is precision instruments and i have a few craftsman laying around as well.

I’ve got a couple of tekton torque wrenches from Amazon and they have treated me well. I had used harbor freight before that until I snapped off a brake caliper bolt on my Toyota when the thing never clicked, I felt like it might have been going too far and I wish I had listened to my gut.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Some good options given and Ill do some research and go from there.

I’m using tekton as well, seem well made.

I have been impressed with the HF icon wrench, but I don't know that I'd buy it again due to price (although I had a coupon). Tekton gets a huge thumbs up from me as they seem to be the modern day craftsman, although not made in the USA at least made in Taiwan and a higher standard than a lot of the chicom crap you see.

I too have mostly Tekton stuff at home, and the torque wrench seems to work well.

For convenience, look up Precision Instruments wrenches. Split/Dual beam wrenches....

And, if you really want accuracy... Each time you use a standard spring torque wrench, turn it to it's highest setting, and make it "click" 6 times in the direction of intended use before using it on your job. (This from a former aircraft mechanic).

Read Page 6-2 for all the knowledge you didn't know you need.

I have a Snap On 1/2 digital torque wrench that I was going to list on eBay. Less than 2 years old. I don't know what your budget or brand considerations are but if you're interested just let me know.

I appreciate the offer Grayson. I picked up a HF wrench the other day.
thanks!

I use a snap on unit for anything sensitive. I'd trust my highly calibrated hand over a Chinese tq wrench ;)

Biggest thing with any torque wrench is to return it to its minimum setting once you are done using it.
I have a craftsman digital wrench. Both ft lbs and inch lbs. They were on sale when I bought them.

After several (older) Craftsman click torque wrenches' handles fell apart I just picked up a Husky brand at HD. I think I have a smaller in-lb one from there as well. Came in a nice case that carries well in my truck when I travel with the trailer.

For what I use them for, they work great. The old craftsman is now a medium length cheater bar.

Yea, I figure the HF one will be fine for my basic needs. Mostly general maintenance like lug nuts, hitches, filter changes etc. Im not a professional mechanic and have no desire to start rebuilding engines at this point in my life.

The HF will last you a year or two depending on usage, I use quite a bit of HF tools and for the money I can typically buy 5-10 HF for the price of a better built tool and its even better when multiples are needed.

I sold my snap on box and 30K worth of tools except or socket wrenches, torque wrench and a few other odds and ends. Between my 3 year old and my businesses I rarely have time to tinker or build. I honestly just didn't want one more thing to relocate because I don't have as much storage until I find time to start the build on my workshop.
