With multiple towing guides/information coming from RAM (confirmed by forum members and myself) it shows the lowest numbers for my 2024 RAM Power Wagon to be just a few hundred pounds over what I tow on a regular basis (six times per month). The highest numbers show several thousand pounds over what I tow. But I can say that towing my 10,100 pound load my RAM doesn’t feel anymore under engine/truck stress during it’s workout than my last truck which was a 2017 Ford F450, dually, turbo diesel and I would like to add the squatting that the truck does is not even noticeable. Kudos to the Seat Of The Pants (SOP) feeling by RAM. Now if I can get over the other type of SOP feeling that the dealer and RAM marketing gave me when buying the truck.

Does anybody know how RAM gets their capacity numbers for towing? With such a discrepancy coming from the same manufacture source there has to be some sort of explanation.

In case you might of… there is no sexual innuendos made or intended in this post.

Alright. Well anyway, the payload and towing capacity numbers vary based primarily on the build of the truck - big fat diesel engine vs lighter hemi, pimp level trim options vs barebones tradesman, etc - all have weight of their own which takes away from what you can haul/tow. I’m guessing those are the discrpenacies you saw when shopping for your offroading-focused power wagon to tow with.

Considering the first 2K miles on my rig, almost half were off road, I am very pleased with its off road capabilities! VERY PLEASED Have not even used the front and rear differential locking, the front stabilizer disengage, or the hill decent as of yet.

BTW - I just got off the phone with MoPar via Oswald and he was able to confirm three towing capacities for the engine/transmission/model:

10,580 :) this is the one that he could confirm for my build
10,520 AND
17,540

He was also able to confirm the highest rating was due to special gearing and RAM does a calculated (via engineering) tow capacity numbers. This is why they can state in their web sites the high numbers for marketing purposes and not be sued for false advertising.

I well imagine all manufactures use the same techniques. And since I had a “TOW pig” before and wanted to get off road more, I chose the RAM Power Wagon. It is fitting the bill, I did not want to buy one truck for off road and one for towing. I found a truck can do both! In any case the side by sides still can fit on more trails than the RAM, but I like my RAM better for a lot of reasons. The “Arizona Pin-stripping” was not one of the reasons. The Creosote bush and native Palo Verde can do a lot of scratching on the finish. You have to be careful and pick your trail carefully or spend a lot of time with the buffing wheel and compounds.
