One thing my truck did not come with was a tonneau cover and I would like to get one.

I found a local guy that has a new bakflip mx4 for $850. I’m not familiar with that brand and see mixed reviews on it. Should I not be cheap and get the mopar one?

Looking to get a hard trifold if that matters.

I have the bak revolver x4s hard roll-up cover on mine and it's been fine. Paid about that same price. Found that it was actually narrower than my box and so the install was a bit annoying. Contacted them and they sent me a new one free of charge, but I decided to store it and continue using the 1st one until I had issues with it. Been a few years now and still good.

Imo, definitely worth it to just get it installed as someone that's never installed one. It was doable, but in the end I realized that the extra $100-200 would've been worth it.

This is the same cover I have and that is a great price.

I do have a few minor issues with it. The plastic caps on the end of the rail pop off too easily exposing the sharp metal edges and the plastic caps on the end of the joints also pop out of place too easily. The rod holders are cheap little plastic clips, and the rods fall out of place too easily. I like that is light weight (compared to my old backflip from 15years ago) and can be in the closed position to close the tailgate. It does a pretty good job of keeping water out of the bed of the truck short of high-pressure car washes and direct shots of water to the rear of the truck. I find driving in the rain; the bed stays dry. It seems to be holding up well to the elements, but my truck is garage kept.

I don't regret the purchase and would buy it again.

The install wasn't bad at all, but I used to take my old one off regularly on my old truck. So, I'm kind of used to throwing them on.

Thank you sir. Just trying to decide if the mopar one is worth getting for $1000 more

I'm not familiar with the Mopar one but I can only assume it's a rebranded version of one you can buy elsewhere for much cheaper. Maybe someone will be able to confirm/clarify. If the Mopar cover is another $1k on top of the $850 you can get the backflip for, my opinion is it's not worth it.

Just something to think about, with most tri-fold covers you will lose 1/3 of your bed length when folded up unless you completely remove them, had one on my truck but it seemed like every single time I wanted to haul something in the bed the cover had to come completely off… I ended up switching to a roll-up to lose the least amount of bed space.

I thought the tri fold was able to be folded almost all the way up? Thought I seen where they fold up and rest against the back window.

Depends on the brand, extang and the Mopar ones are fixed on the front panel, not sure about other brands…

After having several tonneau covers, Hard, tri-fold and rollup. To me there is a clear winner is the Rollup. Why? Easy to mount, roll up and takes little space when rolled. Also, hard covers like a Bak that I had on a Gladiator, are easy to break in, so there goes the security part. If a thief wants to get in, he will. Tri-folds are clunky and take a lot of space. One thing I hate about tonneau covers id cleaning them. As it is very difficult to keep clean. The best way to clean them is to park in the shade, soak it and use a cleaning spray and hard brittle broom or cloth and clean manually. If you do it under the sun the soap and water will evaporate leaving it worse. In my case, I will be getting a rollup Gator or Truxedo and a bed extender that fold inwards to create cargo space for groceries, etc. without everything moving around in the entire bed.

+1 for the Truxedo roll up cover. I've had mine 5 years and it still looks new when cleaned up.

I ran an extang solid fold on my last three trucks. My buddy and my dad have Bakflips. If I was gonna buy a hard cover again I would get a Bakflip. It leaves about 95% of the bed open when you tip up that last bit

I wanted a solid cap but couldnt see spending 4Gs so I recently went with a softopper. I like it so far.

Everyone talks about security, but any motivated person can get into any cap/cover.

I'm very happy with my Truxedo Pro x15 soft rollup. It's very stain resistant (it's got some sort of fabric cover instead of leather or "leather"), even with things like pine pitch, which is annoyingly a thing around my house. Was very easy to mount, the whole top unclips out very easily (though mine spends most of it's time unrolled), the bed rails are low and don't stick up way over the bed, and relatively affordable for a decent soft top.

This is my second one, having had one on my 2019 Ram 1500, and the top fabric basically looked new when I traded it for this truck.

Got the X15 on my 2021. Would buy it again. Since I pull a fifth wheel, I like the low profile rails.

base the want, off your need. I always wanted a diamondback, I loved it but super impractical for me. I don’t do anything crazy but, seems like whenever I needed to do truck stuff I was always removing a panel or taking it off. I had a bakflip also and same problem so I was always taking it off due to clearance issues with my decked system.

Recently I have a love hate relationship with a soft roll up. I love the convenience of just rolling this thing up when I need too but 1000% miss the safety the diamondback offered.

Decked system is too useful to get rid of. If I ever did ditch the decked I would go back to diamondback.

have a bak flip hard tri fold , sweats alot in the winter up here on the coast and is heavy, I have a trifold soft cover keeps the water out better and much easier to handle if you have to remove, prefer it overall

Had a Bak Flip on my last truck, a 2003 dually. Well made but really heavy to fold up when standing on the side of the truck and it did leak at the section seams. Main reason I went with the Truxedo X15 on this truck. While the Bak Flip was more secure, I figure that the X15 keeps stuff out of sight and that is half the battle. "Out of sight, out of mind".

My roll-in-lock has served me well since 2019 on two different trucks. The canister was a bit smaller than the other rollups at the time. Biggest issue is keeping the drains on the canister cleared.
