I installed a Titan tank and a Fleece lift pump. Reset the trip meter and have been watching it as I worked my way down the full tank. The distance to empty is based on the OEM tank and I will use AlfaOBD as soon as the security bypass I ordered arrives. The Fleece is a replacement pump and potentiometer and I was curious to see how the gauge would behave. I stayed pegged on F for about the first 200 miles, suggesting the fuel gauge is interpreting a signal from the tank, not reading from the tank. As soon as I got into the “31 gallons of fuel remaining” the gauge started working down. This morning the light went on at 530 miles on the trip meter. I had some errands to run and filled the tank, which at that point the DTE read 30 miles, and the truck took 42 gallons. This is exactly what I was experiencing with the OEM tank, range was on “low” with 8 gallons still in the tank.

My average mpg on this tank was 13.7 and there was still 8 gallons left in the tank when I filled 42 at 550 miles. The math says that I’d get 660 miles on a tank of fuel, running light. That avg mpg doesn’t compute to the decimal point but it is good enough accurate. It is interesting to me the relationship between the computer and the tank sensor in these trucks. With two different pumps and sensors in two different tanks, the gauge is still wanting me to fill up with a good amount of fuel remaining. This makes me wonder if a backdoor fix RAM put in for the CP4 issue is a behavioral change for not running the tank low on fuel. It’s speculation but on my 31 gallon tank, 8 gallons remaining is a lot of fuel.

edit, I wrote “pegged on E” but I meant “F“ and that is a big difference
