I guess this could be for either engine but I really looking at the 6.4. I debated and bought the magnaflow direct fit muffler. I’m looking for any helpful tips to taking the factory stuff out. I DO NOT want to cut it out as if I don’t like the new one, I’ll put it back in. Mine will be a driveway install.

They are band clamps from the factory just un do them pull the rubber hangers, wiggle and pull until the pipes come apart

Spray everything down (including hangers) with lubricant and let it sit for bit to make your life easier...

Well I got it done today. I fought the hangers a bit using just a pair of pliers. I don’t think I sprayed them enough, as when I got them off they slid right off when sprayed. The new one slid right in. The band clamp on the front (engine side ) did not seal it off completely. Seems to has a air gap I can feel with my hands. Not sure what to do to fix that without welding it. Trying to avoid that in case I decide to go back.

Try tightening the band clamp, then loosen, rotate 90* and tighten again. Also make sure the pipe seated all the way in.

And post a video. Curious about the sound.

Use an impact to tighten the bolts it will seal after

I didn’t pull out the impact but did torque it to the 45 ft/lbs it called for. I’ll get back under tonight and make sure it’s seated all the way and try to rotating the clamp. I need to find a 6.4 today in town and see how the resonator is positioned from the factory and where the exhaust end/tip is positioned. It can only rotate a little bit I’d like it to be right. So far I like the sound and as far as drone it hasn’t been noticed yet. Just a short drive to church last night so no highway yet.

I spent some time with trying to get the resonator perfect. I found there is a sweet spot where it clears the suspension and not too close to the bottom of rear fender.

Don’t be tempted to cut off the resonator. I did and the drone was terrible. I ended up putting the stock muffler back on. Straight piped where the resonator was at. Sounds pretty good

I slightly rotated the resonator upward, painted it black using VHT header paint and installed a Spectre tip after I installed my Solo Performance muffler delete pipe.

One day I'll crawl up under there and see if there is a spot for a round aftermarket resonator that won't need to be cut/welded in place vs that big old muffler looking one...

I always hated those ugly resonators under the back of vehicles.

Nice truck man!
Is that tip just a bolt on or is it welded?
