TFL got an 8 speed 6.4, will be running Ike

Yeah, I was dumb enough to get the 3.73, so it will give me some good info I guess, and if it does do well than I guess you will do all the better.

Curious to see what TFL thinks of the 8 speed 6.4 now that they got one and will be running it on the Ike.

Ram is sending me a Power Wagon on the 7th. It will be my first time getting behind the combo since I couldn't make it to the launch event and we ended up sending our own Mike Volkmann for the trip. But I can't wait. So stay tuned.

I’m pretty happy with my setup so far. The 3.73 works well towing my heavy TT. It’s a little over 10k fully loaded and 37’. The RPMs on the Hemi rev a little at times but so far I prefer it over my 2017 2500 with the Cummins and 3.42 rear end.

Thanks for sharing the info. I really enjoy watching those guys do their thing on YouTube.

Here’s the TFL video where they compared the 2020 Ram 2500 HD with the 6.4 Hemi to the Ford F250 Super Duty with the 7.3 big block. Brutal you called it...they are fan boys for Ford.

I have a 2019 Ram 2500 4x4 off-road 6.4. My neighbor has a 2020 F-250 Z71 4x4 with 7.3

Both trucks are very nice but the Ford is larger and the 7.3 is a beast. Pretty much can't go wrong with either truck.

I was ready to get the 7.3 Ford but it wasn't available when I needed to trade in my Duramax. I did a ton of research and drove the 6.4 and was happy to dump my diesel and replace it with the Hemi. My buddy was looking for a new truck and wanting to replace his LBZ Duramax and I suggested the 7.3 Ford Tremor which he ended up with. He is pleased with the performance towing his toy hauler (around 14k lbs). I was hoping to see this match up before deciding on which truck to buy, I think the results will be closer than people think. The best bang for the buck is definitely the Ram.

I find it interesting that Ford went to a significantly larger displacement engine in order to compete with RAM. The 6.2 ford was outmatched by the 6.4 Hemi. TFL did a head to head video match up where the 6.2 Ford blew up on the way to the test site. They later tested it and declared it the winner...after Ford sent a new truck.

I think Ford is a well engineered, solid truck but they don’t innovate in my opinion. It’s the same body style they’ve been making for years. I looked at one before going back to RAM and was underwhelmed. It just seemed like a work truck they made a half hearted effort to spruce up...a little. The Ford sales manager was a little po’d when I offered my opinion that it’s a tired body style with a fairly plain interior, they’ve only changed the shape of the interior vents on the dash in almost 15 years. Their standard tan, camel color and light gray are turn offs to me, especially at that price point. I just don’t perceive much of a difference of the interior and appearance between a $75k Lariat and a $60k XLT.

I just watched both videos yesterday lol. Why did they compare a stock Laramie to a modified XLT though? Seems rushed to me instead of waiting to get comparable models to test against.

I actually came from a Ford F150, not 250, but they experience similar issues. I will never get another Ford. My 2016 had more recalls and issues. It leaked water (front passenger side), the door didn't latch (huge Ford Class action lawsuit apparently now) after 3 trips to the dealership, etc, I could go on. The quality was horrible. I had enough and traded it in, less than 15k miles on it.

So far with my RAM I have been so impressed with the quality of it and how much nicer it is than my Ford. I followed this forum and did my research for like 6 months before pulling the trigger. I have seen all or most of the issues that people have been seeing with RAM and have not found any issues with mine as of yet... Only thing I do have is the cab mount knock on hard turns. Other than that I haven't seen anything. I am about to journey on a cross country journey, so we will see after that, but so far this truck is great!

I drove both and bought the Ram. The Ford may out-do it on the Ike but for me 50% of my driving is unloaded and the ride was night and day better on the Ram. Also my Bighorn interior is as good as their Lariat interior so the cost difference was significant. There are things I don't like about the Ram. The A/C is weak and the passenger mirror sucks. In fact the mirrors in general suck compared to the Fords. So far the HP is enough, it has pulled some serious grades with my boat behind it which is probably 8000 lbs. with the trailer.

I've had my truck about 8 months now and do not have an A/C issue but I still can't get the passenger mirror adjusted where I can see a damn thing next to me. I have to have it so far out I do not even see the side of my truck and still can't see a smaller vehicle next to me. I see why people drive with them in tow haul mode all the time.

Yeah, I’m rocking the ghost trailer just for that reason, I couldn’t see **** with them flipped down.

I guess I am the minority, I tried to see how they worked in tow mode and the visibility is horrible IMO. Folded out they are just so narrow. I keep them folded in. That's the one thing I miss about my Ford are the mirrors, they had great visibility. Kind of a combo of what these are folded in and out.

I'm still getting used to them. I preferred the old corner convex mirror on my 04.5 but these are growing on me the more I get used to the truck overall. It's longer and taller (hood) than the old one and that's taking some time to adjust.

I really liked the 98 to 09 style...but the 4th Gen style are the best.

I can see everything. There are no blind spots. I can see the lines on the parking lot. And that is in regular position

In tow mode they work perfect for my camper. Absolute full view

That said. I towed our old pop up and then a uhaul car hauler the other week...i couldnt adjust them for anything just right.

So I think they are perfect for me, but I can see how they can be useless too

I was very hopeful that RAM was coming with the 7.0l (426) HEMI. But they already seemed to cancel it for the TRX and challenger.

My next hope is they just bump the 6.4l.

My dream is they redo the block into a modern Big Block and just go 440 Commando.

I know my 488 V10 Magnum (8.0l) is a very similar range to the 6.4l. I miss driving that beast, just wish the Cummins wouldnt have over shadowed it at the time and they could have left it live til we got the transmissions we have today.

Not the results we were hoping for. Certainly should have been 4.10s, but even at that, not a very good showing.
