Hey everyone - I often get a lot of customers ordering HDs and select the Aux Switches, but are hesitant to add the VSIM because they're not quite sure if they'd need it. (To me, very small price tag as % of vehicle, and no, I'm not paid on commission lol). Many of these guys seem to be approaching retirement and beginning to plan about towing 5th wheels for more extended travel, or upgrading what they're currently working with, etc.

I'd be curious to hear from some of you on what you are actually using your VSIMs for in real world, not just the general theory of what it could be used for. Perhaps that may help some of our inquiries to think more future-proof, and help some forum members here see/hear some ideas here as well?

Thanks in advance for any ideas!

One main thing that 2022+ owners are using the vsim for is an easy wiring solution to passively get rid of the 3 horn honk when leaving the vehicle with the fob while the engine is running (since Ram won’t give the customer the option to disable it via radio settings).

Yea, I wrote it up for that horn delete. I also use mine to enable the wig-wag light feature.

Additionally I like having the options to interface to the truck better just in case. As you say it is a very small price to pay compared to the cost of the truck. At the price it is I think it should just be standard.

I did not order it with my power wagon as I don't plan on doing any towing and could not think of anything I would have needed it for that I can' t work around easily in other ways, but later wished I had got it so it would have been available to disable the three honks passively. If I had added the VSIM, I would not have had to use a hard wired switch cut in my dash wired to disconnect the horn fuse only on demand.

What is the wig-way feature?

Waiting on my ‘24 PW…when it arrives, I plan to use the lock output to signal lock actuators in my camper shell, allowing me to use my remote to unlock my camper. I may also wire lock/unlock buttons inside the camper to allow camper occupants to lock/access the truck from a central location.

Also planning to use the high beam signal as a trigger for my switch pros, and the reverse light signal to operate a relay for additional backup lights.

Silverheep got a little bad news for ya idk if the vsim will do what u want I added a v sim to my 23 and the functions I'm unlock door, ant door a jar. Vsim is only usable with ignition on. Acc. Or higher.

This is a problem with your setup. The VSIM does not require the ignition to be in ACC or run for it to function.

The VSIM guide from the Ram Body Builder site states specifically that the VSIM will not function with the key off with the exception of door lock and unlock, so I’m thinking my use case should work - but I ordered it as something to play with…if it doesn’t work I’ll find something else that it can do.

I’ll start a build thread when I get to that!

Hey hey u might of just solved my problem for me. Do you know of some one who has the vsim and that it still functions without the ignition on? I know my truck didn't come with the vsim enabled.

Do you have the VSIM guide? It covers a lot of really interesting information on what will or won’t work.

If u mean the stelantis info yes but believe it or not I was so excited and concentrated on getting this done when I figured out my truck has some kind of connector for the vsim. That I totally spaced off the FIRST FRIGIN PAGE where it literally states that the vsim goes dead with out the ignition on or some thing keeping the can circuit awake! Talk about beating your head against the wall!

Read that first page good it states that only the lock and unlock inputs still function not the outputs. When I get home tonight I'm gonna try grounding the unlock all input and see if the vsim then works.

Was pretty sure I read that the lock and unlock outputs do not require the truck to be awake, on page 7. Maybe I’m reading it wrong, let me know what your experience is!

You are correct it does say that! But read the lock and unlock inputs. It states there that after the input is activated it then turns on the output. Huh kinda conflicting.

Yeah - after your post I saw the conflict. I think it’s gonna be a trial and error thing. Let me know what you see…or else we can wait for my truck to show up in a month or two!

Just went home to try grounding the input. And no go. V sim only functions with key on. Still I don't know if my truck has the vsim enabled I'm guessing it does but only because I found the 6 wire connector under my dash that had power ground and can lines going to it. Out in my fuse fuse panel I found a fuse that was labeled vsim2 and when fuse is removed I lost power to that connector.
