Tailgate will not open

Hello,
I drove with my tailgate down yesterday. When I got home the gate would not shut and I noticed the right latch was closed. I pressed the handle and it unlocked and then it shut. I reopened it and shut it again. Now it will not open. I can hear it actuating and moves 1/4 inch and will not open. I have a factory tonneau cover and can't open that unless the gate is open. It is a 2024 3500. Any ideas? Thank you

the latch mechanism being in the wrong position is weird but I will say that when my battery was dying the first symptom was a tailgate that wouldn’t open. It would try but it didn’t have enough volts with the truck off. Truck on the tailgate would open.

Same thing happened to my 2021 I thought it may have froze from the temp in Dec., they did activate and would not open but the gate opened on its own traveling home. I thought nothing about it until it did it again towing and this time the tailgate got bent from the trailer crank. there was TSB on alignment done on it but that didn,t cure the problem, until the replaced the solenoid latches, hasn,t done it since. good luck

Mine is often hard to open.
Push in on tailgate. Grab handle to open. After click, open tailgate.

Yep sometimes you need to push it in weather something is against it inside or the truck is parked on very un even ground
