Tailgate down Indicator

I've heard that the '23 and newer now have an indicator on the dash when its down, is this correct?
If this is so, can my '22 be retro'd to do the same?

Mine does not have such an indicator that I’ve noticed.
My owner’s manual shows a door open and hood ajar indicators, but nothing for the tailgate.
I’ve been carrying sheets of plywood, drywall and lumber with the tailgate down. Pretty sure I would have noticed such an indicator.

I believe it started it '24, and no it can't be easily retrofitted, the '24 BCM has an extra input for that signal.

Interesting solution. Looks a bit clunky but would do the job.

I made my own. Bought a 12V flashing indication light off Ebay and grabbed 12 V from the nearby Plug on the top of the dash and then taped the light top front of the Inst Panel and then strung the wire all the way back to a limit SW on the Tailgate completing the circut to ground. Light is bright and it flashes.

...or, you could always snap on the backup cam. When you can read your license plate, your gate is down. Just saying for a friend.
What is that? Something that will let you see the backup camera image when underway? Because I need to know BEFORE I pull out of the gas station. That flashing light staring me in the face does this. First left turn crushes the tailgate. I am thinking I have done this 3 times now. This last one pictured did not buff out and the tailgate had to be replaced. Thank goodness I have a white truck. Plenty on Craigslist etc........A factory dash light with a super annoying buzzer would do it. But many will ignore a pleasant chime or a single not ongoing chime for quite a while before they investigate.

The funny thing about this is that my 2019 1500 already had that.
My 2022 2500 doesn't.
Although I've never had it happen that I accidentally left the tailgate down, that warning mostly was annoying when I had the tailgate down intentionally.
So not a huge loss.

That would be great when using the truck for truck things and have the buzzer constantly going off unless there was a setting but then its just more garbage to complicate the systems.….. if your tailgate keeps popping open then you have an issue with the latch alignment.

If you keep leaving it open thats a you issue and you should just hit your camera before taking off or more conveniently when you shift from park to drive you stop at the reverse briefly to see if the gate is open with the camera….

Tough crowd. No it is NOT popping open. It latches just fine.

I have crushed 3 tailgates since 1987. Probably 20,000 trips and only 3 times I have forgot it. If it's fogotten and you make any kind of turn it is going to crush the tailgate if it is down.

So, $15 worth of parts and an hour of my time to save $850 and a lot more time to get the tailgate replaced. I like my odds.

Lets see, if I wired this up from scratch, I think I can figure out how to include a toggle switch to disable it. Oh, in case I am using the truck for real truck things........
Now, if I can just remember to turn it back on..................

Yes I have park sensors. I also have a bed cover and the tailgate cant be seen when looking in the mirrors. Just looking for a simple indicator light that lets you know when it's open.

My 2020 Tradesman 3500 has a "Cam" tab (?) on a screen that also allows you to display a larger clock. Put the cam on and have fun...don't forget the Dramamine. It stays on for about 15 seconds. I'm in agreement with the other person not knowing where the satire is or if'n you are serious. 3 Tailgates? Maybe forgo that and bring back the BullyNet.

Yes, 3 tailgates over 30+ years of towing racecars all over the country with my Pickup. There is likely a few times I got away with it too. You guys must not tow very much. Sometimes I go weeks on trips and I am costantly in the bed of my Truck grabbing DEF or Cokes and that tongue jack will get the tailgate if it is down and you make a turn. Once I am ready to go after a gas stop I hit the road. Many times I try and remember if I put the tailgate up and can't remember. I have actually pulled over to check a few times. I know I got one way back on my 1987 Chevy and I got one on my 2018 Ram 3500 and one on the current 21 Ram 3500. Then I just broke down and put the indicating light. I have not looked into displaying the reverse cam when underway and don't really want that anyways because the damage would already be done. I know the higher trims may have an indication and a remote release etc. But I don't.

I came on here to try and help the OP and gave my solution that works for me and gave the foundation as to why. Then all you berate me and make me feel bad. You call that Satire? So next time I have knowledge to share I might not. On another site I frequent I stopped posting and there are many times I can help when no one else is helping and I don't. I keep silent because I don't need to be attacked and made fun of by a bunch of knuckleheads that want to make themselves feel better somehow.

Now I am curious if my Truck has this Cam Tab. Hmmmm..........
