I am looking into buying another gooseneck trailer to haul my compact tractor. My last one was 18+2 with folding ramps. I am curious what the most common size is. What I should be looking at. I am thinking of stepping up to maybe a 20+4 with ramps and 2 7k axles. I don't want to overload the truck. The last trailer wasn't long enough to haul the tractor with the brush hog. I'd like to be able to haul close to 10k lbs as possible with my tradesman. I know the longer the trailer the capacity will drop. I figured there has to be a sweet spot in length for these 2500s to pull. My tractor, square bales and occasional vehicle is all I ever haul really. a 102 deck over seems pretty convenient. Maybe give up a little length to add width. What are you guys using and having good success with?

There is no “sweet spot” there is the length you need to haul what you need to haul. I have a 25+5 it works well on my 2500

I have a 20+5 with monster ramps that can fold flat and give me the full 25’ flat deck, GVW is 15,680 and that gives me just over 10k for the load, I felt if I went with a longer trailer it would be to easy for me to overload it considering how easy it is to haul 10k on 25’… I also wanted to keep the truck and trailer under 26,001 lbs. My trailer is a PJ 25 LS.

That's exactly what I am thinking. My 2 bumper hitch trailers are PJs. I have had very good luck with them.

I would suggest you buy a trailer that has more capacity than what you currently need. That way your trailer has some capacity to grow if you change your truck down the road.

One of my favorite trailers is one just like this; https://www.happytrailers.com/-used-2022-pj-trailers-82x24-hd-equipment-tilt-bM6k.html 8,000 lb axles, tilt deck...
Perfect match for my 2500 Ram
I really like the Pjs. Have had good luck with my two. Twin 8k axles would be all a 2500 would need to be legal. Part of me says go with a deck over this round. I have never had one but think it would be pretty versatile.

Deckover is really nice if you load a lot from the side with a forklift. The tilt bed is nice for loading mini excavators, small tractors, skid steers, et cetera...

Always go deck over! Even with my GN deck over i built my car hauler as a deck over its been so useful to have the smaller trailer as a deck over
