Stiff Brake Pedal on My '21 3500

My question may be premature as I only have around 110 miles on the truck, but I have to press the brake pedal noticeably harder to stop than I have on other trucks that I've owned. That said my recent trucks have all been 1500's. Is this just a characteristic of RAM HD's?
 
I don't have a 3500, but test drove a couple this last go around. Those that I drove didn't feel any different than my current or previous 2500, but the HDs all felt (to me at least) a little less touchy or sensitive than my 1500. I wouldn't say I had to press any harder, but would describe it more as a slower more gradual effect.
 
Any 2500+ will have a harder pedal feel than an 1/2 ton i sometimes forget when im driving my father inlaws 1/2 ton and push the brake way to hard lol
 
I too went from a 1500 Ram to a 3500. The brake effort seemed noticeably stiffer at first. You'll get used to it. If you have the Cummins, it helps to turn the diesel exhaust brake to the automatic mode.
 
Hydroboost vs vacuum assist. Any diesel will have hydroboost which does feel different until you get used to it.
 
I installed EBC pads and it was a night and day difference. The braking effort feels "normal" now. My OEM pads had maybe 10K miles on them but it was worth it to switch them out anyway.
 
EBC give more dust, squeal or any other negatives? Oh, and guessing it was the yellow stuff pads...?
 
No squeal. There is dust, as with all pads, but I have nothing to compare them to to say they are more or less than OEM.The dust is not horrendous. I have the GreenStuff pads but they have OrangeStuff Extra-Duty pads now that are supposed to be even better. I do not know if the part numbers for your model year are the same as the 2015 but for 2015 they are ED91848 and ED91847.


The Hawk pads that were recommended by others did squeal and were not that much better foot-pressure-wise than the OEm brakes

I put yellow stuff on the front of my 2014 2500 and after break in they still squealed and destroyed my rotors. They may work awesome but not at the high price of admission.
 
You are used to driving a car (1500), Welcome to owning a 8000 lb truck. Takes a little longer to stop it that's all, you'll get used to it. I have found the OEM brake pads the best all around so I wouldn't rush out and change them until you put some miles on the truck and get used to it.

Maybe putting pads that are claimed to be 30% more effective in stopping power on just the front end was not the correct choice. It doesn't explain the squeal but it probably increased the percentage of braking done by the front brakes alone.
 
I have used EBC pads on lots of cars but changing the pads before they have been properly bedded-in and "cooked" seems a bit premature. All new brake pads require a period of time to "season" themselves to become truly effective. The bedding-in procedure of getting them extremely hot, then driving for several miles without touching the brakes, allowing them to cool will serve wonders in their longevity. My current 2500 has 200K miles on the original pads with a lot of life left in them... granted, most of all those miles were towing large boat trailers with EOH systems to help bring the train to a stop.
