Steering Wheel Controls and Other Problems

I decided to start a new thread on this. I saw a few threads about the steering wheel controls, but realize today I need additional help. I'll give the whole story but try to keep it brief.

My fuel pump died, had to be towed. I noted when I picked up the truck that the steering controls were no longer working. No reason to think these were related, but then again pretty big coincidence. This is the situation where no buttons work or light up, but cruise control still works and no air bag error. I can't access the dash menus and for some reason the backup alarm is switched on, very annoying to listen to.

Clock spring has been replaced, cruise button has been replaced, didn't fix anything.

Today I disconnected the battery for over 2 hours, figuring I'd make sure there was a full reset. Didn't fix anything, but now some options are missing from uconnect display, for example step deploy/retract isn't showing as an option (the motorized steps are working fine though). XM radio disappeared from the radio screen, though in settings it appears and shows the account activated.

First, if there's a trick or sequence to get back all options and XM please let me know. Next, if there's a way to access dash menus without the steering wheel buttons working, I'd love to disable that backup alarm. Finally, I guess I need to go to the dealer and see if they have ideas on the steering wheel buttons, but after reading a bunch online I keep reading about part after part being replaced but no pattern of "this is the fix", which really worries me. Thanks for any help.

Update - after maybe the 5th or 6th start/stop, now the options and XM are back. Mysterious.

Any time you disconnect the battery, or do a full reset on Uconnect it takes a while for all features to come back.

It surprised me because I've disconnected before, but I think for a max of 20 or so minutes. This time it took a bunch of time or start/stop cycles to reset.

As I read and search, I'm getting the impression this steering wheel button issue is more widespread than I realized. And RAM doesn't seem to have an obvious fix.

I only started the new thread because I thought I had additional problems. I'll close this out and discuss in relbus's thread to keep things in one place.

Did you ever fix your steering wheel control issue? Mine is doing the same thing 24 w/10K miles. Dealers first attempt failed at fixing it, very next day it stopped working, very frustrating

Anyone find a solution yet? I just got a 2022 Power Wagon with 3300 miles, still under warranty. Audio control button quit working. I restarted the truck 4 or 5 times and it started working again. Stopped again a few weeks later. Taking it to the dealership sounds futile based on these posts. If anyone has found the magic handshake, please share.

I wouldn't say it's futile. I went to my local dealer, I really like their service dept., they changed the clock spring and it is still working 4 months later. As I've said in prior posts, I'm not at all convinced that the clock spring was the problem, I had it replaced prior at another repair place that I trust, that didn't fix it. So unless that was a defective spring (not likely) it doesn't make sense that the 2nd clock spring fixed it. But I DO think that something in the process of repair is what works for some people, whether it's contacts or wire movement or other nobody has been able to isolate.

Thanks. This is a COVID era built truck so I'm guessing there may be some gremlins in the vehicle!

We can certainly empathize with your stance on this matter. However, if your vehicle is still under warranty, then we would advise contacting your local dealership to have this concern reviewed by a tech. Should you decide to have your concerns addressed at a dealership. please reach out to us. We would like to see where we can properly assist in resolving this for you.
