Guys, I have to vent since I have no one else to vent to who may understand. So about 2 weeks ago, my 21 Ram 3500 Laramie night edition HO wouldn't start. I haven't even had the truck for a year yet. 10k miles. Had to keep getting it jumped and eventually, it would start.

I had an appointment with a local dealer on the 7th but the truck kept leaving me stranded so I took it in on the 4th. The dealer was upset that I brought it in early but I told him it's not like I'm demanding an oil change or something, my truck won't start! Told me it would be a few hours. Came back and told me it was the starter and the part is on national back order with no ETA. They alleged they had no loaner car for me to use. Had to miss work and some other side business I use with my truck.

I called ram customer cares who said they would upgrade the status and offer me $45 a day to pay for a rental.. We'll, good luck finding one and if I did, it was 150 a day for a small car, and of course for an undetermined amount of time I would have to use it. Ram customer care has not returned any call at the time I'm typing this.

Tuesday, the 5th, got a ride from a coworker to work. I'm tell her about my truck and she tells me she happened to have an uncle and cousin who own a Ram dealership out of state. I spoke to them and they told me according to my VIN, the truck had NOT been "V. O.R'ED", which means vehicle off road due to not having the part. He tells me there are 106 dealers in the country with this part and there are 83 starters in the "pipeline" which dealers could get parts or something from and only 2 of the 83 had a Vin attached to it and neither were mine. He said he had a starter he'd sell to the dealer who had my truck.

I call the dealer and tell them this and they were immediately defensive saying they are doing everything they can. I ask them to buy the starter from the dealership. He tells me they don't want to pay the freight. I told him I would pay the freaking freight! Magically, the adviser got an email saying the part would arrive on the 7th. 7th came and went no part. Called on the 9th. My adviser was off. The guy I was talking to said he checked my advisers desk and saw the starter sitting on his desk and it should be done today the 11TH. I confirmed what he said.

I waited until 10 before I called, hoping I would hear something. I call, no answer, so I leave a message. My adviser called me back about an hour later saying there must be some miscommunication and he never had the part. The guy I talked to of course, wasn't there.

I get a call from another local dealer who told me they just got a starter but can't get the truck in for another week. I call the dealer my truck is at back and spoke to the service manager, who was a jerk! Like this is all my fault. Basically said the other dealer won't sell them the starter. I called the dealer who said they have the part and they said they would sell them the part, no problem and would call them. At this point, Im wait for a call back. I again called ram customer care. No response.

I'm sorry but this has been an absolute nightmare and the worst experience I've ever had with a dealer or brand! This is my 3rd brand new Ram and the way I feel now based on how I've been treated, this will be my last. It seems like they don't want to do anything.

My neighbor bought a Ford expedition at a dealer near me. He had an airbag recall and the parts were on backorder for 2 months. They said they didn't want him driving his car because it was unsafe so he showed up with a brand new f150 they loaned him. He drove that thing for 2 months! I guess I won't get customer service like that!

Am I over reacting to this? It just seems I'm losing money from a loss of work and the dealer or ram do not seem to care. This is just the short part of it. ‍♂️

If at all possible. Walk into the dealership and raise hell and call the other dealer while you are there and put them on speaker with the parts manager. I am in the industry, however on the finance end but I know a service department and service manager & GM woudl hate nothing more than a client making a scene. I know this is not what you should have to do, but remember you are dealing with human beings and not the Ram brand as a whole. Do you stop eating at Mcdonalds because you got crap service from one franchise? I like my crispy snack wrap and Ram to much.

I just went up to the dealer who has the part and they told me the other dealer picked it up a couple of hours ago. Of course, I have not got a call from them saying they got the part. I did all the leg work to get his part to them. I'm not saying I'll never buy another ram but as pissed off as I am about this, that's how I feel. If McDonald's started costing me as much money as I lost, I definitely wouldn't be back. Customer service is everything in my book. I've used the same business over and over again for years because of the great customer service. If my wife lied to me deliberately, I'd lose trust and it be hard to gain back. That's kind of how I look at it. Ts frustrating that ram cares customer service has not been in touch and has done nothing. No call back. Nothing.

Had a new Yukon trapping water around the sunroof (thankfully not leaking)...took it in to the dealer in June of last year...said they couldn't fix it. No parts. Took it 4-5x in to the dealer (last time in October) for other issues and asked about fixing the sunroof each time...each time same answer. Called a dealer 30 mins away in front of the service advisor and that dealer said yes- bring it on in and we'll fix it. Two days later it was fixed....turns out there was a yr old TSB on the issue...Service manager confronted me a couple months later when I was telling the owner they hadn't fixed it and said the other dealer must of had the "backordered" parts they couldn't get....the part was stinking corrugated plastic you could buy anywhere...

point is that some dealers you just can't work with...and then you end up making it worse when you know what's going on / know what they're getting away with

It should not be this frustrating! Go in to that dealership and tell them that you won’t be purchasing anymore vehicles from them and tell them you will informing any one who will listen of your treatment and posting also. I guess I am lucky I deal at a small town dealership. Not to many shenanigans and you see the same people pretty much every time.

A good local dealership is an important consideration no matter what brand you buy. I have two local Ram dealerships, owned by the same company. One is great, the other is like the one the OP is dealing with. Very frustrating to get the run around like that.

I get this whole thread. Odd how some constant dysfunctional dealers can keep their namesake and drag their parent company down. You would think you could at the least get somewhat competent reliable service from a dealer just because they carry a parent company name. It just seems to many no goods have slipped through the cracks, don't seem to matter Ram, Chevy or Ford.

Exactly! This is almost more frustrating than anything, the parent company Ram. They have not called me back. I've left messages, and emails with my case manager and it's been 8 days and I've heard nothing. I would have thought Ram would step in for there name sake. The part seems easily obtainable but they would rather have my truck sitting there for 2 weeks. I definitely won't be using this dealer again, and I was going to order 23 or 24 through them. Every review site will hear from me. I still have not heard anything from the dealer after they picked up the part from the other dealer. I'm going to give them until 10 before I go up there and stand I front of the advisers desk ad stare at him until my truck is done. Thanks for letting me vent! I'm glad I'm not the only one

Good plan. The service desk at my dealer is connected to the parts desk. The head salesman/ owner office is 20 feet away. Family run for 70 years or so.

this is the way it is in my area as well...local dealerships are hit and miss...the GM dealership I had an issue with is our local dealership that has i think 4-5 other brands as well in the town...

have actually had better luck out of the larger dealerships in the metro areas where they are competing against several other dealerships for your business

Of course, no call this morning. I just called. Guy says oh yeah, just finishing up the paperwork, truck just got done. I'm like, you couldn't call me and at least keep me updated on the progress this morning? I'm on my way to get it now so hopefully everything is good with it... I have a lot to say to them.

****ty dealer. Not a Ram issue particularly.

Sorry for your troubles.. sounds like a pain in the ass.

Ida done the starter myself if my dealer was that incompetent.

its a bad time to be a consumer of most anything. it all costs more than it should and it's all in short supply and the people selling it know that. the people still doing things the right way are the ones that grow/expand/survive in the next market downturn when things get tight and the consumer gets the power back. i'm so glad my truck continues to run well since there are so many of the horror stories happening out there. good luck to the OP, hope the starter is done!

and also as gimme11s says, anything you POSSIBLY can do you should do yourself these days.

I see your point. But the principle of the matter is that it's under warranty, a consumer shouldn't have to endure such work when it's on the manufacturer to remedy the situation. I'd be frustrated too!
