Squeak?

My truck has been very good so far. I have not noted any of the usual mechanical troubles listed on this forum. Fingers crossed!

The only thing I can complain of is a small squeak from the rear end at random times. Anyone knows what that could be? I think it is suspension related, like maybe torsion bar?

I have this constantly. Somewhere in the read end - it sounds like under the bed. Speed bumps in lots, anything remotely uneven on the road, etc. and it squeaks like crazy.

The dealership was useless when I took it in for this, they stated it is normal for trucks to squeak (it is NOT) and that they lubed up all the joints. I'm fairly sure they didn't do anything and just sent me on my way.

I'm still investigating it myself but keep me posted if you find anything.

Ok I banged on a bunch of stuff under the truck, wiggled stuff, felt around, and was about to give up when I hit one of the brake calipers. Both of my rear calipers squeak when I hit them in this spot, but the fronts don't.

After I noticed this I went for a test drive so I could try going over bumps with the brakes applied or Ebrake on and strangely enough I couldn't hear the sound. I'll try again tomorrow and listen on my normal drives.

Maybe you should crawl under yours and give your caliper a tap? Could be the same issue.

Terrible video but if you listen past the sound of my hand hitting the caliper, I think that is the squeak I've been hearing.

Great find! Hope that is the same.
Will check as soon as driveway dries. It's been raining non-stop here.

Hello, just purchased a 2020 ram 2500 bighorn diesel and noticed the last couple days that i'm getting a chirping noise when I go over bumps, seems like its coming from the passenger side middle to front. Bringing it to dealer next week, started doing this with less than 1300 miles. Anybody else have issues like this? Thanks.

Seems consistent with what we're experiencing. Be prepared for the dealer to tell you all is normal and be of no help, but keep us posted if they find a solution.

I'm going to request a tech to drive along with me to verify the noise so they can't BS their way out of it again. Mine has to go back to replace a sun visor that is falling apart so I'm going to do it then.

Okay, I finally had the chance to do the test on the calipers.
Nothing.

But it didn't do it in the last two days either, so it might a come and go thing.
It did sound very similar to your video though.

Thanks for checking.

Mine went away after I tapped them in that video, and then promptly came back the next day. It was so blissful for a short hour not having that noise. It's driving me crazy - I'm halfway thinking about just taking it back to the dealer I bought it from and telling them to tear apart the rear end / replace the brake system. If it's not that my only other thought is the bed mounting to the frame being jacked up somewhere. Me jumping up and down in the bed doesn't cause the noise.

Or is it like this one?

Honestly, yours could be easily fixed I think. The pins, back of pads and pistons should be greased with proper brake grease. That should take care of it.
Not sure about RAM's, but I have seen caliper pistons without any visible grease. It could explain the squeaking noises.

Thanks, I'll ask them to do that when I go back for the visor and let you know how it works. Part is backordered so no idea on when I'll go in.

Yes I requested a tech go for a ride with me, it doesn't sound like the brakes in the video, more like a weak squeak or chirp its not real loud but annoying especially since it had less than 1300 miles. My first ram had fords my last 3 hoping this dont give me trouble as I havent even takin it off tar yet. I will definetly keep u guys updated to what I find out. Thanks.

Hi all,

I apologize for the trouble. If it would be of interest, please know that I would be more than happy to escalate a case on your behalf for further support as you address this with your dealers. This will provide the dealership and yourself with an individual who will review your concern, then assist you and the dealership in exhausting all available resources to have the concern addressed and resolved.

Our team is just a private message away to get the process started.

Hi Mark,

That sounds great thank you. I have my return appointment scheduled tomorrow and requested a technician ride with me to verify the noise. If it isn't fixed during tomorrow's visit I will definitely be messaging you to escalate this.

I'll update here either way.

Thanks!

Mark, I as well have an apt Monday morning if I cannot resolve I will be sure to contact you. I have a good video but it will not let me upload. Thanks. for your help.

I'm really becoming more and more unimpressed with this dealership. Just left and they told me that if it doesn't squeak when they test it, they think it's normal, or they can't fix it I need to pay them because only one visit was under warranty. I told them under absolutely no circumstances would I be paying for it if they can't fix it as the truck is practically new.

I'm starting to get irritated at this point , it's a 2 month old 2020 limited and other truck owners are clearly having the same issue as I am.

I am very sorry to hear this update @lolfunction. If you would be willing to follow up with me via private message to provide your VIN, contact info, and dealer name, I would be more than happy to get the escalation process going so that you have the support of a specialist for the rest of your time in service.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Ok everyone, potentially some good news here. I had to be pretty firm with the dealership this morning, sent them the squeaking video of the brakes (they later said that wasn't it), insisted the tech needs to drive it and duplicate. I got a call a few hours later and they assured me it was fixed and I've already picked the truck up.

It did not squeak on the way home. I took it through the usual speed bumps that cause the sound, and I couldn't hear it anymore. I'm going to give it a few days to a week and then circle back here because once or twice the squeak has stopped completely on its own only to come back in full force a day later for no reason at all. Hopefully this does the trick but I won't be certain until a few days from now.

I'm including a picture of my service report that gave a pretty detailed description of how to duplicate the sound, where the issue was, and how they fixed it. I hope it's of some help to any of you that have this issue. Let me know if you have troubles reading it.

Thank you for staying so on top of this, Mark. I probably should've had breakfast first as I was more than a little bit irate as I left the dealership this morning when I wrote that post. If it comes back again I will most certainly start a case with you. For now, we'll see if it stays gone.

Thanks again!
