The AEV Vertical Tire Mount is Sold Out. What else is everyone else using for their 37"+full size spare?

I was thinking about building my own since i have the technology to do so and I like fabricating things

But, addictive desert designs makes a very expensive one. Fabtech makes one that is super simple that would be a good starting place for building your own.

I also thought about just keeping a 35” spare for when I go to 37”s since a 35 is 95% of the height of a 37 and it fits in the factory location.

I've worked up numerous different solutions over the last few trucks and haven't been happy with any of them, so I just have it laying in the bed most of the time.

I do still have the last of my creations that is essentially a ladder across the rails made from a couple sections of strut channel. It gives me the full length along the floor when needed, and I can clamp it on/remove as needed, but I've found lately I've needed the full length and height of the bed far too often, so tossing the spare in the garage and not having to deal with removing the mount is just easier for my needs.

I ran a Carli threaded bar style in my 2007 with two 37s in the back. It worked great. They don't really make them though. The closest would be the Strapt Performance model. There used to be a brace on the older trucks you could weld the big ass nut to for the threaded rod. It isn't in the same place on the 2500s now. Not sure about the 3500s. I believe it could still be made to work though. I haven't looked at it much since I have the decked system in the truck and my 37 is strapped to it.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Icky ConceptsIicky Concepts (https://ickyconcepts.com/) is testing some now that attach directly to their molle panels but I might now be able to wait. The 2 that have been suggested so far may be able to be bolted to his panels too, so I'll see what can be bolted together.

Thanks S2S1.
When I was searching for the vertical tire carrier it was sold out everywhere. However I gave these guys a call and they actually had 3 sitting on the shelf. I noticed with lots of the AEV sellers they always drop ship and do not truly have stock on shelf. Might give them a call or shoot them and email. https://8lugtruckgear.com. Also I can confirm the AEV rack is solid and very well made like most of their products.

Thanks ShadowMTN, I'll give them a call today, thank you. Can you think of a reason the carrier wouldn't work with a topper/canopy on the bed of the truck? Also, can the tire carrier be mounted to the side of the bed so the spare tire points North-South?

So if you read the AEV site they say the carrier will work with some toppers. You could give them a ring and see if your specific topper has been installed with one. As far as the north/south mounting the bracket is keyed for the front of the Bed. See how it narrows in the middle then gets bigger on the edge? Also it is not made for the Rambox but with some measuring you can make it fit. Additionally with a non Rambox truck you'd have to deal with the exposed wheel well and you'd see the rear of the bracket if you could make it work in a north/south install. But it would be a pain in..... to do so.

Some different styles out there also

SDHQ has the dual upright chase rack with room for other items (Jack/traction/boards/fuel can/CO2/etc)

454 Motorsports have several versions that are easily removable also. Single or dual tires, and tabs for other mounts.

On the old truck, I had a 285/75/17 under the bed all the time, then a matching 37x12.5 strapped when I was on Roadtrips/off-roading/had the room. Will do similar soon when ever my wheels get off the container and show up.

I’ve had thoughts/ideas of a chase rack that drops into/keyed to the B&W Gooseneck Hitch. Handle Jack/CO2/Race Spares/etc at KOH, but easily removable.
