My son just bought a beautiful 2500 Bighorn with the Blackout trim which has 20" rims. It has 28k on it and he wants to replace them for winter. I have a ram 1500 with 5100's set at 2.8" and also the stock 20' rims. I have had amazing performance from my Cooper Rugged Trek 275/65r 20's. The specs are 34.7" X 11.5" according to Cooper so essentially a 35" tire. I get no rubbing at all.

Will he have an issue using these tires with rubbing on his stock suspension and stock wheels?

Dang I like that color!!
The picture doesn't do it justice. Depending on how the light hit's it. It can look like a deep Navy Blue, almost Black to this Royal Blue shade. It's honestly the nicest looking truck I have ever been in.

When I traded for my 2024 2500 6.4, I had a choice of billet silver or the blue. The blue for the 24 is too dark, so I went with the silver.

That's why there is choice in color. Not everyone likes the same color. I am very impressed with it but probably wouldn't get it as my next truck color even if my son didn't get this because my 1500 I currently drive is the True Blue which is similar but a darker blue that I have loved for the 10 years I have had the truck! I would most likely get a Granite Grey or Black since the Burgundy color is no longer available.

Is this stock suspension? The way the rear sits, looks like OEM air suspension.
Angle of the camera likely and no its not air suspension, i personally would never buy air ride.
Not stock. Its a Thuren suspension. I have this kit on it both front and rear set up.

275/65/20 Milestar Patagonia XT. They measure just over 34”. I did a 1” spacer up front just to lose a little rake.

Why not OEM air? How much weight do you tow? Goose or bumper? What’s your tongue weight?

A lot of money is going to be spent and I want to get it right the first time.

Stock tire size is 285/60R20.

Why would you use a narrower tire?

The most common replacement folks use is 285/65R20 we all use and most get zero rub. I get a little paint rub on the radius arms at full lock and off road.

That said, 275/65R20 will most certainly fit. In general, 35's fit on these trucks on stock rims with no rub. 37's will clear with some minor fenderwell/pinchweld trimming, different wheel offset, and/or a small lift.

I personally wouldnt buy Air ride just because its another part that can fail (and it will) when it does i wouldnt pay all that money to replace it and id end up swapping to regular suspension anyways. So skip the step and just go with regular suspension, maintenance free as well. I think its honestly pretty cool and convenient, just wouldnt personally put it on my truck. There is quite a few threads out there about the air suspension you could read on. Its a 50/50 really. The people that have had it for 4-5 years they love it of course. Got people that had it for a couple years it failed and they swapped to regular because the price. Got some people that it failed soon and they hate it becuase it had nothing but issues. Just a subjective opinion really. I just choose good ole regular suspension. Just easier to deal with.

The heaviest im towing right now is my 26ft Eliminator boat. Dry with boat/trailer im at ~5900ibs. Filled with gas its another ~300ibs (50gallons) so ~6200ibs. Plus gear/tools lets just say 500ibs to over shoot. ~6700ibs total. Not much for the 2500 but the way the trailer/boat sits (even after Timbren bump stops) in my 1500 it was struggling and i was getting thrown everywhere when i hit any bump, to the point i didnt even feel safe with my wife and son let alone any other passengers, it was a slow drive. Drove the 1500 about 4 times to the river and got rid of it after the 4th drive when my wife actually got to feel it and she gave me a look like "damn you werent lying about upgrading trucks" she thought i just wanted a new truck for the hell of it.. So upgraded for safety, plus we have desert toys so a toy hauler is coming in the near future and the 1500 wasnt gona tow anything close to the size trailer my wife wanted, we would have had to really settle which is what we refuse to do. So we decided on upgrading to 2500, just like you, alot of money was spent so we did A LOT of research. We thought about a 3500 to just wasnt logical for us and will never tow that much. went down gasser vs diesel as well. Just found what worked best for us and will keep this truck forever or atleast till it doesnt make sense to keep or fix it anymore many years from now.

Bumper pull.
