Something I overcame 20 years ago keeping my head up high was the loss of my right leg below the knee. I wear a prosthetic leg adjusting the changes to it ever since. It was during combat I was shot in the right leg twice and it hurt while in the Marines. Luckily they guys I was with knew not to leave me behind and got me to a safe spot so the helicopter could get me to get medical attention. I was hurting in pain saying my right leg. Did get me into surgery to get the bullets out and saw the leg had to be amputated. So much nerve and bone damage. It was tough seeing my lower right leg missing being told it had to be amputated. My parents, it was a scare at first when they got the call and were relieved I was alive. It was support from my family, friends and family members there even from the members of the local American Legion I am a member at. One elementary class even surprised me, sent me a video cheering me up. I came home during my recovery, everyone helped me out while waiting for my 2 prosthetic legs which one has a stationary foot and one with an adjustable foot. I live a great life living my life accepting as an amputee which is my disability. I do get a disability check every month and do get VA benefits. My twin brother too, nerve damage in his right arm. Humvee rolled over right on his lower right arm at the same time. We enlisted at the same time
