So I am working at a build site and went to leave at 7:30PM and when I pressed the brake pedal and pushed the start button the dashboard lit up like a christmas tree, a loud click, then nothing, then the dashboard goes dark, then comes back in with all the lights and says to press brake and start button, and the cycle repeats. I can’t jump start it. I tried both another car as well as one of those small battery chargers as well as a big rolling dolly cart charger that has a 225Amp start mode. I disconnected both batteries, they both seem to check out ok but I can’t test them under load. I read there is a procedure where you disconnect both batteries and hold the driver side neg/pos together for 30 seconds, but haven’t tried that yet. I also read it could be a loose starter nut, but haven’t checked that yet. Anybody got any ideas?

I would check all large gauge wires and connections from battery to starter. Most likely one is loose.

yep, it’s almost light out, after I get out (and stretch a little) gonna check the wires to the starter and the starter itself.

couldn’t find any issues, the nuts seem nice and secure on starter, kinda hard to really trace the large gage wires since there are 5 or 6 of them between the two batteries.

If those are your original batteries I’d wager those are the issue, not too many had luck getting more than 2-3 years out of them.

you’d think it would be able to be jump started though? or no?

Yes, but depending on state of charge your going to need a like vehicle and a good heavy set of jumper cables to get the amps your truck needs. Double tap the start button to skip the grid heater request as well, that will save some starting power for the starter.

I tried one of the ones that’s on wheels with the 225Amp start feature and nothing.
Your stock batteries are north on 700 amps, and there’s 2 of them. 225 is good for a car. If that has a charge option I’d turn it up on high for a hour or 2 and try again. If not do you have a option to get to a store and grab some fresh ones? Walmart has a good battery warranty and they are nationwide. They are usually fresh as well because of the convenience factor and lower price.

This happened to my '15 HO, too. Replaced the batteries and bingo!

On a side note, my '04.5's factory batteries lasted over 9 years. Those were the days....

yea, when people were saying that they only last 3 years I was shocked. I know it’s not an exact comparison but I just this year replaced the engine battery for the very first time on my 09 Class A RV that sits on a Ford chassis(but of course the RV manufacturer puts crap in for the coach batteries and they go every 2 years), and I think I only changed the battery once on my 08 Honda 4-wheeler.
