Silly question about back seats in crew cab

I have the 60/40 back seats in the crew cab, big horn trim. Do the back seats fold down, I can't find any way that they do. Also, looks like there isn't mention of this in the manual. If they do not fold down are there any kits out there to do this?

On my 2012 crew cab I remember watching the videos that showed cutting the tab, and I just used a stack of fender washers to make a small riser around each of the 4 seat bolts. I can't remember how many, but was probably a half-inch thickness, maybe slightly more. It worked the same, allowing the seat back to unhook. The additional seat hight was not noticeable for rear passengers. It probably gave a slight advantage of space under the seat.

Some, myself included - right or wrong - think that method compromises the crash integrity of the seat structure. It also reduces headroom for back seat passengers, even if only 1/2".

That said, the seatbelt and carseat anchors will certainly still function as intended, so I get if it doesn't matter to others.

Ooh that's a really good point, thanks for that! I'll probably just cut the hooks on the new truck.

I just cut mine as per crusts build sheet. I cut exactly at 1 1/2 inch right below white plastic piece and slightly rounded the cut edges with a file and it works like a charm. Took about an hour at most. Hardest part is removing the bolts, size 18.

Oh god not more illegal mods

(;

Well, that escalated quickly.

I honestly do not get what that MOD does...the seats are not designed to bear weight on the back side like the Mega are they?

Is it MegaCab envy?

I can't speak for everyone who has done it, but I've never tried loading anything on the seat backs while they're down. It isn't even and with the hooks that still stick up, it isn't really suitable for much in that regard. I do, however, really enjoy the extra storage space that it opens up.

Is it more save than flipping the seat bottom up and using the storage decks?

I just use it to store stuff behind the seat in an area that is inaccessible by raising the bottom seat cushion.

Basically you get more storage space. There is a video on youtube where the guy cut the insulation on the back wall and made a storage area for his riffle. Out of sight, out of mind.

If you add after market seat covers it makes it a whole bunch easier to do with the back seat down. It also gives you a place to store the big in the way head rests when not in use. Keeps the under seat open for the other small storage items. I also keep my full size binoculars behind the seat for easy access. I agree the Ram should have made this a permanent fix on their back seat.
