Service Transmission light comes on? Anyone ever experience this?

2023 Ram 2500 towing a 25-foot travel trailer thru the Alcan Hwy, tow haul mode on, the service transmission light came on which limited our speed to 50 miles per hour. Outside air temp was 30*f, transmission temp was 166*f. Has happened 3 times now. Only way to clear it is to stop and shut down engine and than restart. Anyone ever experience this? So far dealer has not been able to help over the phone. We are back in the states now and plan to stop in a dealer to have them check it out.

Impossible to say without knowing what the codes are. The dealer should be able to sort it out..

Hi Alaska, did you end up with a resolution for this? We just had the exact same thing happen with our 2023 2500 8-speed Hemi and limped back to the campground at 50MPH. We weren't towing our 27ft trailer at the time though, just sight seeing. Started it back up at the campground and don't see the problem at this point. Getting in to the local dealer tomorrow. Kicking myself for not having an OBD tool with me right now.

I have a 2024 2500 6.4 with the 8 speed with 15k miles. When I pulled out of a parking space it chugged, the service transmission message came up and then it stayed in first gear. I pulled over, turned it off, then back on and it was fine...no check engine lights or messages. Software issue??

Ours turned out to be a software issue that threw code C2226 TCM Disabled. The dealer found info on a bug related to that code and flashed a fix and it hasn't cropped up again.
