I have a 2016 Ram 2500 with 24k miles that I just bought. Had the DEF system message come up with a check engine light. My DEF gauge was at half tank. I filled up the DEF tank. I got The see dealer message however I am not getting the mileage count down that I have read others get with this message. Is it safe to drive? Should I be worried about the mileage countdown even tho I don’t have that message? If it was just a low DEF fluid issue how long until the computer resets after filling tank ? I do have an appointment with the dealer but not until late next week. Any insight on this would be appreciate.

Could be older def in the tank setting off the quality sensor. Could be crystallization on the def injector. I’d drain the tank, top off with some fresh and see what happens. Then move on to pulling the def injector and see if it’s crusty. For the age of that truck and low miles, I’m banking on aged def causing the light.

Thank you for the advice. I think you are on to something cause I know the DEF has been in the tank for at least a year. Any easy way to drain the tank other than a siphon?
