Seeking guidance dealing with dealerships on 2500

Hi all,

I am a former Ford guy, I'm really liking the new Ram 2500.

I am deciding between a loaded Power Wagon, or a loaded Longhorn. But that is on me to internalize.

What I need help is dealing with dealerships. What a group of swarmy, half truths, say whatever you need to hear bunch.

What's worse, I am in a position for the first time in my life to buy outright. No trades, no financing, just need to haggle the price out.

This is where the wheels fall of the (power) wagon so to speak... When dealers learn they won't have the chance to play the shell game, they don't even want to work with me. Like at all.

Which is fine, I'm very partial to my money anyhow. Lol

But I tried the big ID dealers, mostly same response. Dennis Dillion is the only one who didn't reply with a copy and paste scripted response. Just a guy actually wanting to get me quotes!

Problem is, either truck as I have configured, will need to be ordered. His quotes for both are 8.66% off MSRP.

I'm really going to need to see at least 12% before I even consider buying this. 15% is my goal, but that may be a touch too high.

My question, is this too insulting for these level trucks on an order?

Also, any other tips dealing with these folks I'd appreciate it. I have no issue kicking sales people in the nuts, but apparently business is so good for them, they can decide on what size fish to throw back.

Why do you think 12 and 15% is even possible? There isn't as much mark up on new vehicles as people think, without going into dealer hold back.

RAM trucks goal with these new trucks is to raise the average transaction price...why they have pushed limited and Longhorns and the larger cabs.

Ford offering more discounts help this case.

Good luck with your negotiations. Hope it works out for you, but Dennis Dillion is the cheapest no hassle place to buy FCA products...so I wouldn't expect to get much less than them from anyone else...now on a 2018, maybe a bit more.

Thank you for the tips.

Ram made a great truck this year, I'll probably just hold out till the model year change over, or buy slightly used.

I'm not interested in pushing transaction prices up further. Lol

Just for information, when I bought my 2019 1500 last year, around the fall time frame, they put a 4500 rebate on it. I expect there will be some rebates this summer, but I bet the fall period is when the best rebates will be for the 19 HD trucks.

Yeah, Dennis Dillon offering about 8% discount w/o financing, or about 10% w/ Chrysler financing. You could always finance, take the discount and immediately pay off the loan to get the extra $1k.

But as the others have said, I doubt you'll do any better than that without adding in rebates (FCA Affiliate, USAA, Military, TrueCar, Ram bonus cash, etc.) or until they up the incentives again - which won't be for months, I'd wager.

Here in MN, the best deal I can find is $500 over the holdback minus any rebates/incentives off of the invoice price.

Make sure you pay attention to the payload differences between the 2500 and 3500. The gap is bigger than between a F-250 and F-350, especially since most F-250's on the dealer lots seem to have the snowplow and camper packages (basically upgraded to F-350 springs).

I would use the Dennis Dillon quote and go to Dave Smith with it to see if they'll deal. If Dave Smith won't then I'd say that the Dennis Dillon quote is the best you're going to get.

Ford may be willing to deal a bit more these day as their current model trucks have been on the market for a few years now.

Have you tried craig at Koons Tysons. His info is on 5thgenrams forums. He quoted me 7% below invoice

Also that peterson dealership in Idaho has the best prices ive seen on 2019s in stock. 69k down to 56k or something like that. I bet they would deal. There is a thread on 5thgenram forums that lists dealers willing to deal in different places across the US.
