Looking for a nice place to try an RV weekend with the family. This would be our first go with an RV, so Im not sure if we want power and water hookup or not. I think we’d like to be kind of out on our own, but i’m open to experienced folks telling me thats a bad idea.

We’d rent the tow behind, and it would likely be 25’ - 30’. If it doesnt have one, I can bring a generator if need be.

Any nice locations within 5 hrs of DFW that wouldn’t be a parking lot with 40 other campers?

Thx

There are tons of Army Core of Engineer campgrounds within a 2 hour radius of Dallas (maybe even further). Army COR campgrounds are usually fantastic! Plenty of space, well maintained, not overly expensive - usually water and electric with a campground dump station. I highly recommend the AllStays app to find campgrounds. Good luck!!

I wish I could edit…

Army Corps not Core of engineers….

I usually go to state parks. They can be a pain to reserve. A lot of times you can snatch up sites that were canceled on Wednesday or Thursday. I'm on the west side of dfw. I go to mineral wells, whitney, ray Roberts(both units). Further away I like brownwood. Even further but still within 5 hours is south llano, palo duro. Two of the better in the state.

My brother uses hipcamp. Basically you are staying on someone's property. It can be a pasture or basically an rv park. I haven't used it yet.
