Has anyone ever had trouble removing a Wix secondary fuel cartridge (besides being in a terrible place to access) ? The cartridge seems to be stuck in the canister. Being a Wix there is not much to grab onto.

What is a secondary fuel cartridge?

Are you talking about the engine mounted fuel filter, or the chassis mounted fuel filter/water separator?

Primary filter underneath box, secondary filter underneath the hood. Problem was finally solved after many cuss words , the last time I had someone change the filter they installed an incorrect Wix causing it to get jammed or hung up at the bottom of canister. From now on i will be doing them myself.

They’re prone to sticking because their design is inferior to that of the OEM Fleetguard FS53000 that the housing is designed to use. Wix has to avoid copyright infringement so they went with a single stage filter design which utilizes an external removable o-ring around the base, and a very different cartridge shape / design to achieve this. Then add to that a lack of anything large or substantial to grab at the top. What you end up with is a filter that doesn’t filter as well, doesn’t fit as well, and doesn’t even use the housing in the manner it was designed to be used (dual-stage filtering). Quite often, that external o-ring will fall off during the hard removal process and end up at the bottom of the canister. If I had a dollar for every filter housing I opened up and found that o-ring left behind, I could buy myself a nice steak dinner.

Stick with a genuine Fleetguard FS53000 moving forward. Way less hassle, way better filtration, and likely better priced too.
