Rear park assist calibration

My Fastway 10" drop does not set it off if the ball is on the lower couple of holes, once I move it up towards the center, then it comes in line with the plane of detection on the sensors and sets it off.

I noticed the same if its wider than 2.5” and at 5-6” drop it makes it go off

It would be hard for them to make a "smart" sensor out of a dumb sensor. It's not read by an active monitoring system like a security camera system that you can mask off areas to not alert. It broadcasts a beam pattern out. If they narrowed the beam to miss the hitch, it would not cover the hitch area when one was not present. A little kid gets backed over or something terrible like that and a lawsuit comes in valid or otherwise. Also, it would require a separate P/N from the other sensors upping manufacturing costs.

Pressing the off button when using a hitch is the easier route for FCA to employ.

There is a provision within the parksense system for the front that identifies whether or not we have a license plate bracket installed, which can be turned on and off, so I wonder if there is a way to adapt similar to the rear.
