Looking to add some 3” LED pods to my rear bumper (AEV which has nice little cutouts for them). This truck already has pretty good rearward lighting with the factory LED tail lamps and factory mirror mounted auxiliary lights... but more is always better.
Considering a few different approaches:
-Flood lights in both cutouts
-Flood light in PS cutout, Red light in DS pod as rear foglight/chase light. I feel like a DS mounted white floodlight would be more beneficial than PS, but DS is the correct side for a rear foglight.
-Dual color LED pods(only a couple I’ve found so far, some just have red “ambient” which wouldn’t be bright enough for a fog light) that could fill the role as auxiliary Reverse lights as well as a rear fog light and/or additional brake lights. Or try and find 3” square trailer lights (no luck finding any so far)
-White flood light pods, then try and find somewhere else to add a red rear fog light.

Kind of just thinking out-loud, curious if anyone has any advice or ideas?

Do you really have that much fog that you need a rear red light? I went with 2 flood lights in my rear bumper, Much more useful for my needs. Great for backing up, hooking/unhooking a trailer at night, light for loading a trailer at night etc.

Rear fog necessary? No. But, Nice to have in heavy snow storms or fog. At the same time, more rear work Lights aren’t “necessary” for me either. The mirror mounted lights and reverse lights do a pretty good job already.

Being as we are on the same boat…my plan is to use diode dynamic ss3’s, waiting on their backlight feature like they have on the ss2’s. I reached out to them a while back and they said they were under development. My plan is to use hybrid lens with red backlight (kinda like euro fog) for DS and amber backlight PS (chase).

I dig that idea! I was wondering when they would come out with the backlight for the SS3. My only downside/question is how bright are the backlights?

Maybe even wire up the Amber to a flash module....

They said “in the next few months”, for the chase you can control the flash within the switchpros menu. The backlight seems to be pretty decent from what ive seen.

Yeah, I might still want to use a flash module so I can have it tied same button as something else that has a built in flash ;)

Good to know.... I haven’t seen them in person unfortunately
