Rambox vs Hay?

To date I have not stacked anything on my Rambox lids but I am wondering.

Has anyone stacked/loaded hay so the outside bales rested on the top of the Rambox lids?

I've asked that same question without a good answer. They seem to only regurgitate the Rambox contents capacity of 150lbs. Would depend on the bale weight as well.

I wouldn't hesitate to haul hay with my Rambox-equipped truck. The majority of the weight would not be on the Rambox, it would be on the bed of the truck.

isn't the ram box more narrow? seems a round bale would sit on the inside of the ramboxes quite a bit...

I believe the question is more about a method of stacking hay in a pickup which layers the bay on top of the rails themselves to get more into the truck bed (see picture). Can the RamBox doors handle a load across the top of them.

It can certainly handle the load but will it break or tweak the doors. Certainly a risk there. I’m not sure if they publish a load rating for that sort of use. I’m not sure I’d do it myself, but I don’t give myself the opportunity as I usually have my hay delivered. If not, I’d probably use my trailer to get more in.

But with this explanation, if correct for the OP, maybe someone has some experience/knowledge.

Yes a round bale more than 4’ wide would set on the Rambox and likely crush them.

However, I am thinking of small square bales (14”x18” & about 36” long). I’ve been getting 21 bale bundles that fit easily in the Rambox, but if I hand stacked I could haul more.
