Is there a maximum weight carrying capacity for a ‘19 2500? Manual says a weight distribution setup is recommended for over 5k pounds, if memory serves.

It will carry whatever you want to put in it, whether legal or not, that is a different story.

What your truck is designed to carry is right on your driver's side door jamb.

It is called payload.

The weight distribution hitch is for towing. And the 5 k is trailer weight.

We have a thread discussing the different payloads of the HeavyDuty.

Each truck has a very unique payload.

You can also go here.

Scroll to the bottom. Click the LOOK UP MY VEHICLE tab.

On the next page enter your VIN

I think he’s talking about max towing on a weight carrying hitch vs on a weight distributing hitch.

The answer is the HD Rams can tow up to their max towing capacity without weight distribution, but it’s recommended above 5000 pounds.

2000lbs is the max tongue weight.

With a weight distribution hitch recommended over 500 as mentioned.

Sorry I misunderstood. I just went off the 2nd comment.

You also need to make sure the amount of cargo and hitch weight do not exceed the GVWR.

No problem. I had a few drinks before I posted that. :-) I should have been more clear and asked about the weight carrying capacity on the hitch. I had tried the link you posted to and put my VIN in earlier, but the site would not respond. I'll try again sometime. Thanks

Axle and Tire ratings are more reliable than GVWR if talking non-commercial and what DOT cares about.

Yep. I just kicked this thread into high gear and russled up the "MFG RECOMMENDATIONS ARE LIFE!" oldies ;)
