I just saw the announcement for the special lunar edition Ram Rebel with Cummins, and something caught my eye. In the Motor trend article, there was a picture of the Rebel interior with a column shifter (indicating Cummins) but seeming with switches for front and rear locker (look on the left hand side of the 4x4 selector).

Do folks think this is accidental, or potentially something new or a slip from the 2025 model? It would be awesome to have a front and rear locker with an OEM controller without having to go ARB air locker (even though it's durability is fantastic).

What are folks thoughts? (Pic below, linked here from motortrend, seemingly same pic but missing the locker switches from this site)

Also, note the center screen shows "locked" icons for front and rear diffs. However, I doubt they will put the locker on the front of the diesel due to how small the front axle is and how heavy the diesel engine is. The front axle is the first thing you will damage on the diesel if/when you start driving too aggressively...

Ah, yes I meant to comment on that as well, I had to shrink down the image to get it to upload and I got so excited I forgot to add it.

I think the comment on the front axle for the torque makes sense, idk if I agree on the weight, because that isn't a huge deal.

I know that ARB has offered a 9.25" air locker forever that you can install in Cummins equipped trucks, since it's been around since like 2013.

Perhaps it's enough of an issue that OEM doesn't want to though.

For what it's worth, I think lockers and poor control of the skinny pedal with the Cummins is a risk regardless.

Another thing, while we are analyzing the photos; the TPMS shows 32PSI at all four corners, that's quite low air pressure for a tire with so little sidewall (285/60r20 on the Rebel)... Of course those are just marketing shots, probably not even based on actual vehicles
AND, the reason I mention the weight of the diesel is because if you get the front tires in between the proverbial rock and hard place, that is where the torque of the diesel can easily be applied to start breaking things. With the diff locked, all the torque will go to the tire that's in a bind (the weight helps put it in a bind!). With the open diff, the torque is split exactly 50/50, so the tire not in a bind will spin, hopefully before anything breaks

FYI, recently tried to order a 2024 2500 Rebel last week with the Diesel engine. I was told I could only order it with the "lunar package". That means a single color (their moon grey color or whatever it is) and it is only in a single color option. It also had black door handles and some other items I did not want. Basically all Rebel 2500's being built until the end of the 2024 model year will have this lunar package. That is what I was told via the regional Ram rep. I assume they are trying to use up the paint and the seating that they had from the other models that ran a lunar package some time back? Thus, I am waiting to order a 2025.

That “picture” is actually a computer generated image. Ram (and the other Stellantis companies) use them a lot in promotional stuff. I wouldn’t read anything into the appearance of locker switches.

very strange

Thats really interesting .. does that mean I can now order black proximity door handles to upgrade my Tradesman PowerWagon ?? Need to find the part # they are using for the door handles. Also seems like its using the BigHorn Front Grill which actually looks really good ..

They’re most likely the PXJ black painted handles, just like when they started using black handles on all TRX’s in 2023.

The pictures in the lunar article are confusing, the interior looks like it's still running the UC4 software with everything else being 2023+, and the exterior tires say good year wrangler, but i'm 90% sure the treads are BFG KM2.
