Ram Connect trial - really???

Got notice that my Ram Connect free trial is ending or I can extend it for 3 months before they charge. I looked at the packages and am absolutely shocked if this is true that these services aren't just part of the truck. On our Fords and Hyundai the app part is free/included

If anyone has let theirs expire, I just want to know if the following still work, because they are really the only useful things I did with them:

1. Remote lock/unlock with app, check fuel, and check odometer
2. In the uconnect maps, I have gas stations shown always so I can switch to that for nearby stations without disrupting my android auto nav destination. I don't need the uconnect nav
3. Alexa. I like asking random questions that pop into my head. Also was a great workaround to the horrible uconnect nav voice recognition. I would ask alexa instead. But I honestly don't need the nav since Google is far more accurate

Can anyone verify that all these are lost if I don't pay $14.99 plus $9.99 per month?

Does the truck's wifi connection (not hotspot) for software updates also stop working without Ram Connect?

You'll still have the over the air updates.

1. You will lose the remote lock/unlock and start feature but the app will still show you fuel level and odometer
2. Yes, gas stations will be lost in the uconnect nav. The maps will still be available, but you will not get real-time traffic updates.
3. If you have android, just ask Google

In the winter I do pay for the Uconnect so I can start my truck from wherever and get it warmed up when I'm out. For the nav, I activate that for a month when going on road trips. I do like the display in my dash when coming up to turns/merges instead of looking over at the screen.

Okay, so you can activate and deactivate without paying some reactivation fee each time? That would be handy when we are doing a lot of towing for a particular month.

correct, no activation fees. I'll sign up and pay then cancel next day so I don't forget, and the service stops at the end of the period.

What a ripoff. 110k for a truck and this nonsense. Pain in the as turn it on turn it off!!! BS!!

Alexa in the truck needs the actual hotspot subscription, not Ram Connect. So there's a different thing to pay for if you want that.

All this is crazy. A monthly fee for what I thought was just standard on cars today! (phone apps, maps)

Wouldn't that be nice?

We have to pay a monthly subscription for my wife's VW connected services as well. I get insurance discounts for having the service (vehicle tracking and recovery, essentially) turned on, so that makes up for half of what they both cost. Makes the little bit extra worth it to me.

The monthly cost is extremely high for the functionality you get, only lock/unlock and remote start. It's so bad, Ram doesn't even allow you to adjust the HVAC settings or vented/heated seats. Other brands, such as Subaru, allow you to do all of this for 3 years for less than 1 year cost of RAM. And Subaru's service is near instantaneous and not a hope it works, like my experience was with Ram's.

Yup at least you should be able to set the climate from your phone for $16. A month!!!

The truck does it automatically my 19 tradesman turns the heat on with remote start in the winter or the a/c in the summer

I’d prefer to fully disable all that telemetry crap and antennas etc. Has anyone documented how to do that yet here?

My big horn will turn on my heated seats and steering wheel as well has heat/AC. Comfort has to be set to auto and in the settings there is the option to turn on the seats and wheel with all starts, remote start, or off. The heat only works if its under 40F I believe.

I let the trial lapse. There's no value in it for me. I tried the phone app briefly. It took over a minute to unlock my truck from the app. That's a no-go. I deleted the phone app.

And yes, the holy grail for any business is to get customers on a subscription based business model.

All this bellyaching.

We just bought a new Kia and they are also 1 year trial then turn subscription. Their Alexa Skill doesn't even work and requires their top tier "Ultimate" subscription. I can get it linked, but it has some random name for the car that doesn't match the name in the Kia Connect app, you can't fix, and doesn't execute the 3 or 4 simple commands it was built to do. All I want it to do is run a (failsafe) routine to lock the car every night like I can with my $5/mo RAM Connect subscription.
