I've got a 2020 Ram 3500 8ft SRW and wanted to see what airbags people recommend these days. Here are things that may affect recommendations:

  • <4k payload
  • Self-install... So easier install is a plus
  • I plan on starting with manually pumping since I don't plan on towing often. I can always add a compressor after right? That may mean a better option for me are ones that are less likely to leak and/or don't need a minimum fill that I have to monitor on non towing days.
Thanks guys!

OK, so something like the loadlifter 5000 ultimate plus (89231)? Looks like its $500 or so. Is that right?

The non plus version (88231) has regular lines and plate instead of stainless steel ones and is $450 or so. Are the SS upgrades a gimmick or needed?

I've never been in a situation where I wish I had stainless lines.

I got the carli ones that came with the suspension kit. In reality they are Firestone bags but just sold under the carli brand. Quality for sure with an integrated bump stop. Put the manual valves by the license plate and works great. Will have onboard air shortly but my Milwaukee battery compressor works great for now

Check out Timber Grove, couple of us run them and are happy, all stainless steal, good quality and great customer service. They also state they are designed to fully cycle with the stock suspension. Here the thread I started when I was looking into bags.

Timber Grove is what I used this time. Very happy with them.

It's more than just lines and plates.

All the plate bolts and fittings are stainless as well. The painted rollplates will rust and over time could start to deform. Mine did but it took 16 years.

Never had any trouble with the plastic lines.

I replaced them with the stainless kit only one before I sold my 04 - didn't plan on selling at the time.

I'd seriously check out the Timber Grove mentioned.

I just installed the Airlift Ultimate Plus and very happy with the quality. My previous truck had the standard kit and the stainless steel definitely seems more stout.

I will say I found the ultimate plus kit on Amazon as used like new for $354.00, so keep an eye out there.

They seem like a solid kit and a good option.

My only concern is that it doesn't look like they have bumpstops like the other brands do, so you always need to have 7psi+ in them. I'm not opposed to having air in them, it's more so that since I will rarely need them I am going with a manual kit. I don't want another job where I have to check the air pressure in the bags I don't use every X weeks.

Have you guys found you can put air in the Timber bags and come back months later and it is the same PSI? Or do you need to check every few weeks?

my airlift bags stay around 5psi. temps affect them very little, unless wild swings happen.

I run 5psi as well and haven’t had any issues with them losing air. But I don’t go months without towing my toy hauler. Just make sure to have valve stem caps that have the little rubber oring to make a good seal.

I installed Timber Groves in 2016 on my 2016 Ecodiesel. They have never lost air (maintained at 5psi).
Like noted above, their customer service (it's the owner) is outstanding, as is their product.

Installed Timber Grove air bags on my 2019 2500 this last weekend, very easy job! This is the third set I've bought from Timber Grove over the years.
