Just wondering if anyone is running the PPE transmission thermal bypass to lower trans temps on the 6.4 ZF8. I installed a thermal bypass on my wifes GMC 5.3 trans and it lowered the temps by 25*. I emailed PPE to make sure it fits the ZF and they replied it does fit. Thanks for any feedback.

My truck’s transmission temperatures stay constant at 167 or 168 degrees even in the summer towing 10k, so I’m not sure it’s necessary.

I think it needs to get warm enough to keep moisture out of the transmission fluid.

Maybe if one was pulling full time and heavy it might be worth considering.

Yeah at least for my usage I haven't seen a need - I don't tow heavy but pulling our little 5k gross travel trailer up some decent mountain passes in the summer I've seen trans temp hit about 184. Not high enough to worry me.

What transmission temps have you seen?

I have seen 180* pulling a 5k bay boat during the Summer. I am in Texas and it was close to 100* that day. I didn't really think that much about it but when I came across the PPE bypass I thought if it lowered it as much as the one I installed on my wife's truck it might be worth it. I am probably over thinking it and will just run it the way it is. Thanks for the advice.

Yeah I wouldn’t worry about 180 one bit.

If you're trans temps are not climbing higher than comfortable I wouldn't personally run one. There's a reason why the thermal non-bypass is installed in the first place so that the trans fluid temp can get where it needs to be for the health of the transmission. Having it bypassed an open all the time will cause your transmission to not warm up as fast... Will that cause an issue I don't know but since they designed it that way, i'd say it's probably necessary.
